Anyone have ANA Cargo / NCA info?
 
Hola!

HACS has slots for B747 F/O's paying pretty decent change and I wanted to see if anyone here is flying or has flown for NCA, Nippon Cargo Airlines, the all-cargo division of Al Nippon Airways?

The basics are bases in AMS, JFK, and SFO, 3 year 7 month contract (5 months training, 1 month OE, pay and single-occupancy hotel during training).

I'm mainly looking for QOL issues. They state minimum 10 days off, 8 days will be consecutive, but don't state if that's back in domicile or on-the-road off days. How are the trips and layovers?

Anyone with any info would be greatly appreciated.

I got some information, then found out that I'm "not qualified" with over 7,000 hours total time, 4,000 hours PIC jet, 4 type ratings including the 727 and 737, almost 1,000 hours in the 727 and 3,000 hours in the last 5 years flying EFIS and FMS equipped aircraft.

If that doesn't make me qualified, I don't know what DOES. I was told that most of the people getting interviewed are 757/767 guys from the majors like USAirways who will probably not see their jobs again for about 10 years or more.

From some guys who work there, schedule is 2 weeks on, 2 weeks off. Base in SFO flies all over the orient. Base in JFK basically just does back and forth ORD ANC and back to JFK. Even though I live in TN I was going to go for the SFO base.

Single occupancy hotel during training. Time off to visit family during training (since it takes half a year).

Expats fly with expats, Americans with Americans. Americans are inelligible for the AMS domicile.

Upgrade runs 4-5 years and pays about $180 grand a year plus the one month's salary bonus every 3 years completion of contract.

Contracts are auto-renewing for 3 year terms unless you've screwed up or pissed them off, then they auto-renew for ONE year to let you know they're upset with you. It's up to you to fix that or expect not to be renewed the next year.

They're changing over from NCA to NYG, which means the Zed passes MIGHT go away, they don't know yet. Large amounts of growth expected.

Just curious, but does their training mentality require new-hires (some flew twenty five years on heavy jets at TWA etc., including the B-747...) to study actual radio theory, and spend a whole day simply "learning" to move the slat/flap handle back and forth, as if immersed in some ancient/medieval Zen Buddhism rituals?

This is only based upon what some other pilots have learned.

I don't know to tell you the truth.

I do know that the FIRST step you take is to obtain the 747 rating here in the U.S. Evidently it's cheaper and they've found that Americans are better off learning the initial 747 training from other Americans.

After that first two months, you get some time with family, then they ship you off to Japan for 4 more months of their training on initial indoc, and God knows what else it takes 4 months to learn...

But for a starting salary of $92,000 a year, $78,000 while in training, I'll spend an entire day moving the flap lever while chanting a budhist prayer and even try to cross my legs across each other yoga-style... it's all good. :)

Thanks. read your postings on NCA> I am thinking of joining them from SIA Cargo, but was offered the 747Classic..when I am flying the 747-400..dont want to do that!!! Do you know when they are phasing out the classics and what the upgrade pospects to the 400 are?

I wouldn't turn the Classic down quite so fast... Upgrades are running 4-5 years (2nd contract term). What are they at SIA?

I wouldn't imagine the Classics will be around too much longer, they're supposed to triple in fleet size in the next 4-5 years, so you wouldn't be on it forever.

More important is quality of life, pay, and upgrade opportunity differences at NCA versus SIA. Which one looks better long-term for you, not just qualifications for the next contract you might take.

I guess you are right. SIA Cargo doesnt have a command programme "yet"...!!! and one has to go on local terms...(that is a BIG pay cut)...and do minimum five years before you may get considered...ie when they get the command programme up and running...NCA is looking very good...better than EK and the rest....will try for it....!!:)

How to apply
 
Sorry about having to ask this but having researched how to directly apply to NCA I have only ended up at PARC's or Hawaii Aviation.

Is there a more direct route applying to NCA that I do not know about?

NCA doesn't hire direct. Currently the only way to get there is with Parc or HACS
