More Virus headaches for operators if you are still flying!
As shown by events over the weekend, provision of ATC in the US is at risk from the Covid spread. NY Center (N90) shut for a large part of Sunday, and service in the NY Oceanic FIR remains suspended until at least 1030Z Monday (advisory service only). Elsewhere ZID (Indy Center) remains offline above FL230, LAS, MDW, FRG are all ATC Zero/CTAF. All of these ATC stops have happened where an FAA employee has tested positive for the virus, and the facility is closed for cleaning, or for a longer period because of staff unavailability. This is likely just an indication of what may happen in the weeks to come at these and other ATC facilities in the US - widespread shutdowns of ATC are entirely possible. Read up on the CTAF procedures (linked), and expect the unexpected. For good info on these events as they happen, monitor the FAA OIS (https://www.fly.faa.gov/ois/), and the NBAA ATS (mostly by email, some on Twitter @NBAA_ATS). A map of outages is available at https://bit.ly/2JbDt00.
