ATP FAA

Hello guys !

I have ICAO ATP and I am studying to get the ATP in the U.S. I know that I need to do the ATP-CTP course. But, once I have not a Type Rating, If I make the A32F Type Rating after the ATP-CTP, will my FAA license come with MULTI-ENGINE + IFR + A32F, or only the IFR + A32F ?

And which is the best app to study for the ATP FAA written exam ?

There is no IFR rating on a FAA ATP. The ATP is an instrument rating.

There used to be FAA guidance that if you took your ATP checkride in an A320 series aircraft the ATP was only valid in an A320 series aircraft because you had not demonstrated steep turns and stalls. I do not see that guidance anymore but it would be best to check with a training center that does A320 types.

Hi,

I'm in the process of converting my ICAO ATPL to a US ATP. I'm a 777 Captain employed in Asia and intend to apply for an FO position with a major in the US. My spouse is a US citizen and i intend to obtain a Green Card through her.

I had my ICAO ATPL license verified earlier this year, and subsequently was issued with an FAA PRIVATE PILOT - FOREIGN BASED certificate on Mar 2017, for "AIRPLANE - SINGLE AND MULTIENGINE LAND issued on the basis of and valid only when accompanied by my ICAO ATPL".

Am i correct to understand that my next steps are to:
1. Complete an approved ATP-CTP course
2. Complete the ATP Knowledge/written test.
3. Complete a type-rating course (777 preferably) from an approved training institute, which will include the ATP check ride.

Also, do i need another license verification letter if i expect to complete the above by Feb 2018, beyond the 6-month expiry of the initial verification letter?

Any inputs are much appreciated.

3. Can be conducted after you’re hired and in a training class.
You can do it out of pocket but it will be an eye watering experience.

And yes you will need a ‘valid’ letter of verification to make sure your ICAO ATP is not under suspension or revoked.

Thank you for your prompt reply. So, a Major can hire me without a fully converted ATP (No practical test) and then put me through their in-house type-rating course?

I was about to mention that.
What do you consider the Majors?
Delta/United/American Airlines?
Despite the fact that a green card is supposed to give you the same employment opportunities I refuse to believe that. Certain Airlines, including some of the Majors definitely “prefer” US Citizens although that will never be said out loud. You’ll just never know why you’ve not been hired/selected.
Some outright require a US Passport because of background requirements for a security clearance you need because. FedEx and UPS.
Not to mention people are lined up around the block to work for those 5 companies.
You may want to take a look at a company like Atlas or Kalitta.

Yes, i ruled out Fedex/UPS for that reason. Decided to give UA/Delta/AA a shot, with a preferance for an SFO base. Nothing to lose (other than a few thousand shekels). I understand the ground sentiment on citizenship v GC. Had a quick look at Atlas...pay looks low.

I have 13,000+ widebody hrs with 10,000+ PIC on 777. Hopefully, that puts me on a reasonable footing with the Big 3.

There’s no such thing as picking a base as a new hire.
You’ll be in a crash pad with psychotic flight attendants same as everybody else.
No entry level captain or picking your airframe either.

Got it. Was looking at United. New hires are offered 737 at SFO or EWR. I own a place in the Bay Area, so no crash pad there if i get SFO.

Psychotic FAs...haha...that'll be something

I wonder how I managed to NOT be one of those "everyone else" for over a decade now. Never had to share a crashpad with anyone, psychotic or otherwise.

What about the written test ?! Is it a 125 questions mixed between all the subjects and I just need to score 70%, or Do I need to score 70% in each subject?

The ATM is graded as one test. You could fail all the questions about a certain subject as long as you make 70%. That being said, the practical test examiner will see your test results and focus the oral on areas you showed weakness in on the written.

Just curious. Is there any data on pass rates for the ATP written vs the oral?
