Florida Flight School Decision...Reviews wanted

Good day friends,

I am looking to train to become a pilot from zero to cpl in Florida. I will consider Instructor courses at a later date when I can safely fund that. In my research taking my budget and other factors into consideration, (budget being the primary factor) I have boiled down to two options:

a) Florida Flyers

b) Aviator Collage

Does anyone have any further insights on either of the two schools as I am a bit indecisive at the moment. The prices are close but I cant seem to find a deciding factor for one over the other. I hope some one will have had first had experience to assist. Thankyou!!!

Hey, Weathergirly. Are we related?!

I'm also looking for a school in Florida to do an ATP at. Just want to turn up, do minimum training, oral test, check ride and then go away.

What sort of time scale do folk think that it would take someone with about 4000h on a EU licence to do the above in?

The requirements to get a multi-engine FAA ATP changed last year, with a grandfather period *if* you passed the ATP theory exam prior to 31 July 2014.

If so:

*You'll need a SEVIS approved school and TSA approval (background check, fingerprints etc).
*Flight training as required.
*Pass a checkride prior to 31 July 2016.

If not:

*SEVIS school & TSA approval as before.
*ATP Certification Training Program (ATP-CTP). ATP-CTP requires at least 30 classroom hours, and 10 hours simulator training. Six hours of the 10 must be in a Level C or higher simulator.
*ATP exam. Easy. Takes a few days of self study but it's worth while doing really well on it (see my notes comment below).
*Flight training as required.
*Checkride.

A couple of notes about the checkride:

Tolerance = 1/4 scale deflection, altitudes +/- 50'
Every FAA checkride has a ground oral portion that will include rules, procedures + questions from every knowledge area that you got wrong in the theory exam.

I live nearby and have never heard anything negative about Florida Flyers. When I have visited them their staff have been very friendly and helpful. I have never been a student/customer there.

St. Augustine is a nice friendly city with lots of things to do/see when you aren't flying.
