How to get JAR CE525 type rating onto unrestricted FAA license
Hi guys,
hope that someone of you knows the answer to my question because I had several different answers and no one seems to be 100% informed nor correct.
If holding a JAR frozen ATPL with CE525 rating, what is the procedure to get this rating onto an unrestricted FAA CPL/IR/MEP?
I know of cases when FSDOs issued validations based on foreign license right away with CE525 rating on validation PPL/VFR. If performing IFP and BFR and it should basically be legal to fly N registered CJ-CJ4 private.
Is an addtional check ride needed to get this TR on an unrestricted FAA license? Does it depedant on the experience of the applicant? Qualifications?
Would appreciate your help.
Thanks,
Alex

First, in order to get a FAA commercial certificate, you must hold a FAA PVT (61.123.)
If you get a FAA PVT under 61.75 you'll get the type limited to VFR as you say. Pass the Instrument Foreign Pilot test and you'll have the IR. Complete the flight review and you're ready to fly. The one question I'd have at this point is, "Who's flying a CE-525 without the transfer of money?" Not only can you not be paid to fly with only a PVT, the people in back can not be paying to ride in the plane.
Now it get's tricky. If instead of just passing the IFP written, you pass the regular IFR written and pass a regular IFR checkride, you'll get US TEST PASSED on your 61.75 cert. Then if you can show the training for the type rating was conducted by the holder of a FAA CFI, the US TEST PASSED will apply to the type rating also. And so then, when you pass the regular FAA comercial written and checkride, your CE-525 type will move to your commercial certificate without a checkride.
If you can not show the JAR training was conducted by a FAA CFI, you'll have to do the regular ground and flight training, pass an oral and a checkride. I don't know what the "previous experience" in mushroom's reply is. Since you're applying for a commercial, 61.121 applys, not 61.157. Some training centers have shorter courses for pilots with time in type.

The easiest way to do it is to get PPL based on your foreign certificate (FSDO), write the instrument and Commercial written and then attend recurrent at FSI or CAE on the CE525. The check ride is the same as the initial and will get you a FAA Comm. with CE525 type.
You need to arrange this with the TRTO ahead of time as well as going through the logbook verification process. TSA clearance is also required.
