I understand that once you have a stand alone FAA certificate you can no longer apply for a 61.75 certificate.

§61.75 (b)
(3) Does not hold a U.S. pilot certificate other than a U.S. student pilot certificate;

Conversely if you have a 1.75 certificate and subsequently obtain an FAA certificate you do not have to surrender the 61.75.

It would be nice if this was not the case as you could hold both, then exercise the type ratings on your foreign licence in private ops without having to pass the FAA checkride for them.

As far as adding SEL to your FAA certificate it is probably easier to do a Comm rather than a Pvt checkride. There are less task areas to cover as you will get credit for having completed many of them as part of your ATP ride, but apparently this does not apply to a private ride.

I stand to be corrected if I have this wrong.

Yes, you're right. Once you have the regular FAA certificate the only option is to take the normal checkride and add add the rating to FAA certificate. Somewhere there is a matrix of items that can be waived if you add another category or class to a FAA cert. I'd think from MEL ATP to SEL PVT or COM most squares would already be filled.

Been reading this thread & have some got some good info from it. A couple more questions... Would like to get the FAA ATP written exam done before the July 31 change. Is July 31 the date the exam paperwork would have to be rubber-stamped & processed by the FAA as "passed" or sat the exam by? Also, to actually sit the exam, the other paper shuffle like having my licence verified etc would have to be done or can you somehow sit the exam without any of the other stuff done? I'd like to fly over & sit the exam early June. Also, I may have missed it earlier, but in the conversion, is an instrument rating theory exam required or does the ATP theory exam suffice?

In FAA land your exam gets rubber stamped the day you take the exam.

The ATP exam will also cover instrument rating so no need for a separate test.

Yep, FAA exams are done by computer. I don't even think it's possible to take one by filling out a piece of paper with a pencil anymore. The last time I took one that way would have been in the early 1990's When you hit the "done" button, your test is graded on the spot and you get your results right there.

FAA Helicopter ATP

Quick question. Do the new ATP rules coming into effect in Jul 2014 have the same, unpleasant effects on rotary pilots working toward their ATPL?

If you ever decide to add an ATP ME to your certificate, you'd have to play the game at that time.

How to get a Type rating Removed from ATP Certificate

I have a very old type rating ( B 727 SIC ) on my ATP Certificate. I really don't need it anymore since I'm typed on B 747, 757, 767 and i'm currently flying last one.

When you work overseas they really don't like to see those limitations.

Call OKC, tell them you want to surrender the rating. They'll say you will have to go through another training program to get it back. Tell them that's fine. Should be a done deal.

Hello,
I posses a FAA ATP with C56X endorsement besides my EASA ATPL.
Now I'd like to go to the US for some single engine privat flying.
Question is what to do to get a SEL/SEP privat privileges only into my FAA ATP.
Any recommendations to do this at Las Vegas area?

Hello!
I refer to my previous question.
Now I contacted various renters and flight schools to receive the SEL but answer was easy.
If you hold a stand alone FAA ATP certificate then you can exercise the privileges of a FAA Commercial Pilot Certificate with and Instrument Rating. (61.167 (a)(1)). Therefore to rent or fly an airplane here in the states you would not need to get private pilot privileges added to your ATP.
So no check ride? No endorsement for privat flying required? No TSA? Just checkout, flying fun?
Any clues?

Depends what type of ATP...I have atp MEL.but only PPL SEL....ATP MEL then you can't fly SEL...

Hello guys,

I am currently in training to get my ATP.
I have 2500 TT ( 2000 on ATR) and I decided to do a few hours on PA44 instead of going to a simulator. I am from Europe so it is a good way to practice my english and fly for real in the US.

What can I expect for the oral exam? I passed the knowledge exam just studying the GLEIM so I am petty sure I am short of knowledge.
Will the oral questions test be about the PA44, or will I have some general questions ( Meteo, Flight planning, Performances (PART 121)..

Besides what can I expect for the check ride? Will that be a navigation flight or just some stalls, one inoperative ILS, go around, some holdings patterns, a non precision approach?

The FAA publishes guides to what is expected on checkrides. They call them Practical Test Standards.

ICAO Annex 1 ATPL requirements in relation to FAA-ATP?

I treaded great part of the thread, if topic was treated before (not seen), apologies.

From Part 61 Sec 61.159 ATP Requirements, it says a.o.

QUOTE
(d) An applicant is issued an airline transport pilot certificate with the limitation, "Holder does not meet the pilot in command aeronautical experience requirements of ICAO," as prescribed under Article 39 of the Convention on International Civil Aviation, if the applicant does not meet the ICAO requirements contained in Annex 1 "Personnel Licensing" to the Convention on International Civil Aviation, but otherwise meets the aeronautical experience requirements of this section.
UNQUOTE

The article 39 just says the same (paraphrased by me): "if something required by ICAO not met, you must state it"

I could not (yet) find the ICAO Annex I requirements, anyone can tell what could be a typical "missing capability" that might stand out on a newly to be obtained ATP?

(jet ratings perhaps?)

If you qualify for a restricted ATP, such as the military qualification which allows you the restricted ATP with only 750 hours, you would not meet ICAO requirements for an ATP.
