Ashes to ashes

dust to dust. So... who will bite it first? Cimber, Norwegian? Not SAS of course government daddy would never allow for that to happen. :p 10-15 million kr a day losses, possibly for weeks, months? This job my friends, is the best. Ever.

Is it too late to become a dentist? :E

Guttn 16th April 2010 11:07

No one will bite the dust. Except maybe the volcano itself:E. IMHO things will be looking normal by Monday-ish, and the news will again be filled by wars, climate-stuff and the latest reality-tv news. But.... if things were to last for weeks, I`m sure the government would help the companies financially through these challenging times.

No worries. The tap isn`t dry. Keep the holy water flowing:ok::}

idiotsrus 16th April 2010 18:43

Who will be helped You say? if there is one company to be helped we all know wich one, right? As previously we all know where the bucks end up, rightfully or not. 15 mill a day was before the Islandics decided to put their island on fire...today..dream on.

I don't know, guys. This sucks big time. Looks like Norway is blessed with the Gulfstream (no, not the airplane), and cursed by the Jetstream (no, not the airplane). :)

Let's just pray the Icelandic eruption settles down and doesn't awaken kindred volcanos that might deal a death blow to all aviation in this part of the world.

Uff da.

Cheers,

Tom

somethingclever 17th April 2010 11:04

Not so sure Guttn, SAS are shutting down ground ops in norway. 2500 workers without pay :ouch: but not fired as I understand it. Some sort of unpaid leave? Norwegian seems to be talking about similar actions, more to follow on that one. Thing is, nobody knows the time frame here, if the situation hasn't changed in two weeks time it will be !!!!! creek without a paddle for everyone :uhoh:. How long can airlines continue to take this unprecedented punishment of their wallets? Cimber-Sterling was hanging by a thread (as I understand it at least) even before the shutdown, by now that thread must be down to a single fiber.

At some point the already broke countries from the recession will have to fork out millions to save aviation. That's bound to be popular with the general masses. :ooh:

(of course, last time the thing blew up it kept going for a year which would really make for an interesting development in northern europe, but one thing at a time eh )

We need some winds of change right about now...

And why should my tax-money be used to help private companies? !!!! happens.

Unless you also propose we give money to the oil companies when there is no more oil, to the fishermen when there is no more fish and to the miners when there is no more gold.

Laissez-faire. Now, where can I get my hands on a fleet DC-3 and 6s?

Ah. I stand corrected. :)

Guttn 17th April 2010 15:12

Sh!t happens, for sure! But the real question is; is what we now seeing different from the initial eruption? Is this just smoke, or are there still ashes within these clouds? Anyone for a UAV? :ok: There is just too much hysteria at the moment, and there are no real figures to base it on. Not an easy call, but flight safety is the number 1 concern. And yes, it looks like there will be some longer lines at the unemployment office later this week:(

Once the Govt takes your money away from you it becomes their money.

As always they will use them to the best of their ability (on themselves and to buy votes to be able to continue spending on themselves)

Guttn 18th April 2010 08:53

Or maybe they convinced their governments into doing testflights to see if they could get some answers to the big question; is this really dangerous? Is it ash or smoke? The Norwegian government is, as usual, happy at idle, and waits until someone else takes the first steps in any direction when it comes to trying to solve a problem. Shutting down, however, is no problem at all:ugh:.

Latest airspace news; Norwegian airspace from Kristiansund (ENKB) to Berlevåg (ENBV) is open today, allowing flights in that region. And they are hoping to open up airspace overlying western Norway this evening. New info at 15.00 they say. OSL area is still a no-fly zone:=:(

Blue06 18th April 2010 11:00

DY is opening its TRD base this evening
LOL!! Apparently you work with DY but this is just getting ridiculous :=
With one DY-departure TRD-BOO-TOS-BOO-TRD this evening, I would hardly say they're "opening its TRD base"
SAS has 3 departures, DY has 1 :D

wizo 18th April 2010 18:43

Has anybody got any idea why an Icelandic air 757 has just done 3 circuits over TRD ? I can only assume it is some sort of test flight, I live in Hegra and have seen it on finals

Matriks 19th April 2010 06:02

No test flights, that's 3 of the 5 planned passenger flights:
