Just take a look at the below links and compare unit cost among other things....

Norwegian Annual Report |

The Group's operational key figures - SAS Annual report 2011

And what does those numbers say...? Of course DY have lower costs - it is their only advantage! Anything about earnings....?

DY are now closing down TRD-BOO-TOS, and also TRD-BGO-SVG. SAS have signed a leasing contract for one more Airbus A340-300, and have confirmed 2 more A320 waiting for the A3NEO.

By the way: SAS is now re-launching its recuitment program, and the first meeting is on jan 8th. This time they expect also external recruitment.

So for those who are not conviced of SAS sudden death; This is some good news....

but

I thought the message was that there would be too many pilots just a few days ago. Etihad etc.
what airplanes will they start hiring on?

Etihad need experienced pilots, SAS have too many of the experienced, (and thereby expensive) ones. The Etihad deal will therefore be a long term deal to help both companies problems. In addition there will be approximately 60 early retirements in addition to normal retirements next year.

Regarding types I heard mainly B737 i Norway, and some CRJ900 in CPH.
