Job openings for Scandinavians
 
Have heard that Norwegian airlines is looking for 737-rated pilots of Norwegian or Scandinavian origin.

Also heard that the Icelandic operation (AAI?) prefers Scandinavians, and may provide typerating as they have not been able to fill their requirements from said nationalities.

Just hearsay. Both airlines have already approached the expat environment for candidates.

Seems to me that Finland is the place to be... I've heard/seen that at least following Finnish companies are currently looking for more pilots: Finnair, Blue 1 (SAS), Air Finland, FinnComm ( Golden Air) and Airfix Aviation...

As long as Finnish language is forbidden here, those jobs are open for Finnish pilots only. So try Maersk-air instead.:E

Gee you are very nationalistic.
It nice that we all can read and follow the debate now. You can read and inform yourself about the situation in th middle east and I can read about scandinavia. Dont worry. Finnish job will be for finns. It too cold for anyone else.:( :uhoh: :\

Yes, it is definately nice to see the industry is doing quite well in the polar region of this world:) Expecially in Finland I think the situation has never been better. After your training you could easily find yourself from the right seat of a modern transport jet-Nice.

We all can follow the depate now???? And what makes you think that "we all" understand Swedish, Danish or Norrish??? Remember those other nordic languages are still aloud here. So finnish should be too. Or let's put it another way round, Shouldn't english be the only language of this forum???

Ehhh, I have heard that applicants for airline jobs in Scandinavia should be able to speak the local language (?) Dunno abut Finland, but it seems like Iceland have realized that there are not enough locals to fill their need.

Why all this fuss regarding languages? Is it actually about territory? Unwillingness to share openings with your fellow men?

Luckily the market seems to be picking up, so in a while ya all may be too busy flying to fight amongst yourselves.

Until then, do keep on posting all rumors about jobs in the Northern areas. May the best guys/gals win.

Please, find the facts before you thread on thin ice! Some Finnish companies have their very strict policies and screening systems dictated by their owners which in turn rules out foreign nationals. It is easier to select "suitable" and train them to be "capable" than vice versa.....

... believe Norwegian are hiring 26 pilots to fill expansion and upgrades .... preferably 737-rated people ... no direct entry captains due to Pilot Union influence .... hmmmm .... when will Unions also learn to respect experience .... not only the "next one in line" for upgrading - suitable or not ....

Unions are supposed to work for their members, not direct entries. Who told you that Norwegian doesn´t already have experienced FO´s waiting for an upgrade??

I am also a firm believer of seniority. Have seen companies who have it and companies who dont. Another thing is how many companies actually follow it. Nowdays the way i see it is that when company hires an FO they normally test him in the areas they think are valuable-by doing so each and every FO meets their personal requirements for a later upgrade.

I think this is quite touchy area first of all, but lets open up the door for a little conversation. To be able for a Captain position of a large transport jet what kind of experience one should have in your opinion? I think once you have say app. 5000hrs and couple years on the right seat of that specific airplane and operation you should be able to upgrade skillwise-normally seniority spoils this plesure. If one cant handle the thing at that stage for sure things arent that different few years later.

... I do agree that a company shall respect seniority - I the case with Norwegian the picture is a bit different ....

NAS (Norwegian Air Shuttle) was a purely Fokker 50 operation until a few years back. The decision to start a new "wing", a low price competitor to SAS was taken, and to operate 737's. There was no Union in the 737-operation - only in the F50 operation. The F50 operation ceased and all F50 pilots was transferred and given type's. Several of the commanders did not pass their skills test. Only after restesting 2 or sometimes 3 times did they pass.

Now - Norwegian has expended strongly after this took place and the number of suitable right-seaters are dwindling - down to 5 or 6 as far as I know. They are unable to fill the 12 positions needed.

It is in this case that it would be suitable to let "outsiders/new-hires" with type and experience fly right seat 2-300 hours to get to know the operation and "the specialities" in the norwegian met-conditions along the more than 2500 km coast. And THEN break seniority to fill a left seat position .....

Or am I totally wrong ... again ....

Well, I don´t think that you´re wrong...if there are no suitable candidates to upgrade.
And you´re telling me, that out of all Norwegians´ FO´s, only 5-6 are ready/suitable and can pass the upgrade training/checks?? In that case, by all means bring in the direct entries I say.
But at least give the guys waiting a chance first!
And I wonder if the present FO´s agree with you;)

No, I think You are quite right. I was just talking upgrading in general. If thats the case I think they have no other means than to fill the positions with people from outside the company. Nice to see them expanding :cool:
