Icelandic volcano eruption is imminent

According to the news (still only in Icelandic) an eruption on the Reykjanes peninsula is imminent, within hours, fairly close to the main airport KEF / BIKF.

Is reported to not be likely to spew much ash, should be a lava-only eruption, so not likely to disrupt aviation, but one never knows.

News in English likely to appear here: https://icelandmonitor.mbl.is

Oh good......Just as we seem to be starting to crawl out from under Covid19 !!

Amazing how they can work out what is happening far below the ground under a volcano, and whether it will be a large or small, ash or lava eruption.

I hope it won't affect aviation.

According to local experts, (mbl.is and Grapevine.is reports) the main problems are likely be lava movement in fissures away from houses, and a release of fumes ... so no immediate danger to aviation nor to KEF ... there's now a webcam of Keilir up and running (https://www.livefromiceland.is/webcams/keilir/) ... after a considerable local earthquake swarm in the Reykjanes peninsula that has been ongoing for the past few days. The webcam shows both a visual image and another thermal image. Impressive, and for the moment, all is quiet.

And a new fissure has opened up ... thankfully not posing a threat to the population nor at the moment to air traffic ..

They'll continue to open for a while - they have to as Iceland sits on the Mid Atlantic Ridge so the east side goes east and the west side goes west as the plates move apart. The lava fills the gaps
