Can I ask a simple question of the permanently employed Norwegian pilots.

Has a mechanism/ understanding been reached between the pilots, their unions , & the company, for this recruitment ?

Both Rishworth, & recently PARC, are now proposing 3 year contracts . . . . I don't know if these are on the original terms advertised a few months ago , or whether these have been reduced to reflect the longer contract / stability (?) being offered.
Confair have also advertised this vacancy (expressing a preference for Training Capts) although I suspect they may just be fishing for C.V.'s.
PARC now give the base as "Europe" previously they quoted Malaga only, Confair say Spain & Finland & Rishworth say Northern & Southern Europe.

So, has anything been agreed with the "full-time-employees" ? or is this contract likely to be disrupted/cancelled due to industrial action by the full time employees, are the likely participants seen as "Union Busters" ?
Curious, as the contract isn't bad at all compared to some out there, but seems to be taking time to get going.
I am also surprised at PARC readvertising it, as last time around it was only advertised for around 7-10 days, offering T's & C's that were good enough to leave me surprised at the need to re-advertise again.

Don't shoot the messenger ! however I would be interested to hear the Norwegian guys take on all this, particularly the "3 year" development.

Hey, those are excellent questions.

These days the Norwegian Pilot's union is quite busy resolving the situation that is developing in the company, and I can assure you that permanently employed pilots in the company do not take this lightly.

There is no understanding or agreements between the company and the union as to the exploitation of pilots on temporary contracts. The company has initiated and started this process all by themselves.
The union was neither informed of nor included in the plans to start a new base in HEL or AGP with contracting pilots.

I'd say this development is likely to be challenged by industrial actions in the near future.
But it depends what the company and the union are able to resolve...

Iberia pilotene streiker nå av samme grunn. Opprettelse av Iberia Express hvor betingelsene for de ansatte skal reduseres til nivå med kontraktspiloter generelt i Europa. Har hørt det er forskjellige interesser blant pilotene i NAS, men jeg håper NAS pilotene melder seg inn i NF som igjen er en del av den europeiske pilotforeningen. Skal pilotyrket ha en snøballs sjanse i hel....må vi stå sammen. Det er ikke bare Kjosern som driver med sosial dumping av yrket. Ryanair, West Air Cargo, Danish Air Transport er noen i vårt nærområde.
Støtter NAS pilotene i deres kamp men tror det har liten effekt hvis ikke det blir større markeringer i hele Europa.

Ja. Skal man få skikk på ledelsen og sikre alle nåværende, og ikke minst fremtidige flygere, en stabil og forutsigbar framtid, er det dessverre eneste vei å gå nå...

Det er slett ikke umulig... Hvis noen skal ut å reise nå på våren, vil jeg anbefale dere å booke sete hos SAS, for å si det sånn...

Jeg personlig tror at det vil holde med trusselen om streik, men det kommer an på hvor sta Kjos og Kise er da....

Foretningsadvokater begge to, Kise en av norges best betalte. De gutta er ikke vant til å tape, og brevet som gikk ut til pilotene i fjor ang HEL basen viser at Kjos også handler på følelser. Jeg håper inderlig det holder med trusselen. Nå er det jo så mye som står på spill med kjøp av fly etc, at kanskje Kjos er tvunget til å gi etter for at ikke investorer skal få kalde føtter?

Coming soon via PARC /Rishworth, B787 Capt, base Bangkok, 500hr widebody command required, 3 yr contract. 1st course planned for Jan 2013.

I am pretty sure the B787 rating is going to be self-sponsored????

I wonder how much a B787 rating costs 40k$-50k$
and why are they not upgrading their own pilots?

We will see when the Ad appears, bear in mind though that each new aircraft purchased "normally" includes a certain number of TR's per airframe, so "maybe" not.
It appears the operation is quite probably being set up under a different company name/AOC. This, & the requirement to have 500hr widebody time for Capt, (claimed as needed to reduce line training time due previous long-haul experience) is "possibly" a way to avoid having to take, in seniority order, those that would insist most to keep their permanent Norwegian contract. Existing Norwegian pilots can apply, but must take a leave of absence from their permanent contracts to fulfil the 3 years here.

I pass no comment on any of this, merely reporting how it is being executed.

Er det ikke slik at 787 rating ble godkjent tilsvarende 777 rating? Bør vel være litt penger å spare der evt. mht. ratingen. Om Norwegian kontraktene imidlertid har benefits til å tiltrekke seg kvalifiserte 777 flygere er riktignok en annen sak/pris.

It will be crucial for the Norwegian pilots to have the support of their European colleagues in the future conflict. Right now there are up to 7 different companies on a wetlease for Norwegian. Among them are Jet2 uk, transavia and Jet time. If it comes to a strike, those pilots will play an important part not to fly Norwegian flights...

Hey boys, smell the coffe!

This is XXI century, $5 USD/oil barrel days are gone, every single airline in the world, with the probable exception of the ME ones are all struggling to survive.
What's the problem if Norwegian or Emirates or Ryanair or Turkish, to name a few, contract direct entry captains for a new type? This is clearly the most cost effective solution! It's obvious in this case that make much more sense to hire guys with lots of 777 time as the transition can be done in a little more than a week, with the benefit from the long haul experience.

Just a little bit of reality check! Or the boys will be just jealous about not playing with the new toys?
When they signed the dotted line was it clearly stated that in case of a new type be inducted they would have any preference?

Calm down gents, nobody will ever think about going on strike about this!

Dear FF,

It is obvious you haven't put much thought into your reply. The main issue is not the new 787 operation but the existing short haul network which is being completely undermined with contractors. Indeed the days with 5 dollars a barrel are gone. Here are the times of ultra cost reducing measures and the struggle to survive. Every company is crying wolf, howling how difficult it is to make it. Any means are justified in order to erode the pilot profession even further. If we don't fight for it, there will soon be nothing left. Every pilot will be employed by some agency without any security what so ever. So yea, rest assured, people will go on strike for this.

I guess I've been missing a lot from this thread as some insist in posting here in a language different from English.
This is probably because they only understand their local language. Unfortunately I'm completely iliterate in Danish or any other Scandinavian language...
As for doing something to stop our career and profession continuous spiral down, I'M TOTALLY WITH YOU! We are almost reaching the limits of indignity.
We actually need to establish urgently, as somebody appropriately posted somewhere on PPRUNE, an International Pilots Union. We need to stop this abuse!

Strangely, I don`t see a similar thread up in the R&N or the T&C sections... There is one about the 787 Rishworth contract up there, though that one is of importance as well (further outsourcing of crew from Europe), this one is ever more important. Most of us have got their backs on this one, and it really is about stopping the race to the bottom. We all learned to fly together, we all made the same mistakes, we all drank beer at the same bar and had some good times. Then, seeking employment, some were more fortunate than others, but we`re still the same though our uniforms are different. Let`s not help management worsen the conditions so that our future colleagues will be after our hides rather than having our backs when push comes to shove and the collective middle finger is raised.
