SAS Polar Survival Equipment

I am seeking information and photographs about SAS polar survival equipment used in the 60s and 70s . I particularly need information on the 3 / 4 person sleeping bags. Also any polar survival manuals would also be welcomed. If any one can help I will post my E mail address.

Good idea, Mech! The museum should have some material - and probably contacts to direct you to for more info. I remember there was a documentary made, I think it was for the SAS 50th anniversary (1996?), where the trans-polar flights and the safety measures associated with the feat were presented by enthusiastic veteran flight crew. Perhaps the museum has a copy? Some more information about the museum here. Looks like they have the equipment on display.

Thanks for your reply. The SAS museum used to have a web site with quite a lot of information and photographs, but it has dissapeared. Only small mention on SAS main company web site plus a page on the Gardermoen aircraft museum web site.
Will be visiting both museums in May, but may be in the mean time a web site will appear!!!!!!

Thanks for your reply. As explained in reply to Flying Mech, SAS museum and archive web site has dissapeared. May be some one will read these lines and get a site going again.
I flew with a British Airline in the 70s and 80s and did many poar flights. I want to make comparisions between the various company's equipment, and their attitude to polar survival.

Many thanks for your reply. In May I am back packing round the Lofoten Islands. I have the Bodo museum on my "visits" list before I fly down from Bodo to Oslo , where I have put a day aside to visit the Gardermoen museums.
Your suggestion about checking polar survival equipment at the Bodo museum had'nt crossed my mind. I was initially going to check out the Bodo aircraft but will seek out any equipment on display.
Many thanks.
