Well to tell you the truth. There are too many pilots from BT. They can se what I'm writing. I had some argument with CP. I was flying 737 as PIC and since I flew F-50 three years ago, they were forcing me to back on it and fly two types. Of course more on F-50 than 737. Due to family reasons, schedule on F-50, money I tried to refuse F-50. Again tried, but....... CP....... No comments.
3 Captains from 737 quit for the same reason. If wasn't because of F-50, I would've stayed.
Other than that company is OK, I enjoyed working for BT. Every company has up's and down's.
Right now I'm on training on A320.

More. Most of foreign pilots complain about schedule. No time to go home. Most of the StandBy's flying. Summer busy. 90-100 hrs/mth. F-50 abt 60-65 and no time off. Lots of duty close to 190 hrs/mth.

I was there last Monday, 14th.
I passed and got called for the next stage from the HR lady today.
Just a summary of what I can remember for people who are attending in the future:

There were 6 of us for assessment on Monday. All for Q400 FO.
The first thing to do is fill out the psychological questions, answer true or false to each question, if I recall there were 370q.
In the mean time we were taken in pairs for the tech interview. He was a friendly guy, a Capt on the 737. I was asked about; drift down procedure, LVP take off minima, CAT II minima, comms failure. My colleague was asked some altimetry questions, QFE to QNH, on an approach to an airfield where the temp is -30c by what factor do you increase the DH on approach etc. There may have been a few more questions but I can't remember sorry.
Then, back upstairs to complete the psych. stuff.

The sim: We were in Copenhagen. My colleague flew first he had, a normal T/O straight ahead to FL070, no SID. Once leveled off a turn DCT to a VOR and establish on an outbound radial. After that vectors to an ILS, go-around, No.2 engine failure. It was something like that I can't remember exactly to be honest.
Then it was my turn, I didn't get a take off, just took over controls at 3000ft, one steep turn at 30degrees and one at 45degrees, ILS apch, go around, no. 1 engine failure, vectors to another ILS, became visual well above mins but I f***ed up, became unstable and so did a go around, then positioned on another ILS, still single engine and landed off this one. Finished! I'd say we flew for about 25mins each. Neither of us were rated on the 73 nor had any jet experience, maybe tougher if you have either.

Then the ATPL Q's. I honestly can't remember the exact questions, I mean I remember both papers (25Q each) covered lots of subjects with no particular one standing out, it was really general. I put a good bit of work into Ops. in my preparation as I read somewhere there were Ops questions asked but there weren't any in both my two papers
I guess they use different papers maybe. I used aviationtire.com and it was helpful.
All in all, good atmosphere, friendly people and a really good training centre building/set up.
Rumors of Dash 8 ratings starting in April and another in mid May in either Stockholm or Toronto.
Good luck to anyone else who is going.

What position did you apply for and how much experience do you have?

I'm also in stand by pool, recently passed the assessment.

For roster, no fixed pattern I.E 5/3 or whatever.

Normal roster, if you dont interfere/influence it by making requests, will give perhaps 1 block of 3 or 4 consecutive days off a month. Contractors have in their contract 1 block of 4off guaranteed a month, locals not.
In practice there is a lot of variation between individuals rosters month by month, and indeed some guys seemed to get home, even to UK, sometimes 3or more times a month, whilst others could only manage once, or twice if they wanted to bother for just 1 or 2 nights at home .
Colleagues that made requests seemed to have them honoured most of the time, assuming they had reciprocated with being helpful in the past, that is common sense of course.
I have seen months where local guys were VERY happy to have 2 consecutive days off between an early and a late meaning NEARLY 3 days off once a month, but as I said, impossible to predict and Jun/Jul/Aug, if on a local contract, probably best you dont make too many commuting plans too often a month unless perhaps to a Scandi destination served several times daily. Local pilots association has tried hard for years to get a fixed pattern, indeed the monthly hours flown should on the face of it allow it. The company take on it, is that the mix of night flights/split duties/long days/very short days makes it impossible to roster a fixed pattern with the number of crew employed. I am not a crewing officer, so I wont pass comment. The local guys are not so fussed about it, as they are in bed if not in Boeing Hotel going to Tashkent or wherever, which is probably why it doesnt happen, it is of course the commuters who find it the most unhelpful.

If you plan on the worst, be helpful when asked by Crewing and make a reasonable number of requests in a timely manner, I think you will find it is as commutable as any job on offer, just a shame they cant sort a fixed pattern, but that does not seem to be likely any time soon.

TheOne83,

Did you take a position with airBaltic? If so are you still waiting for a start date or have you started?

It would be interesting to hear thoughts from any people who have started there recently, Ts&Cs etc.

Cheers

What were your impressions of the second stage may I ask, TheOne83?

I read your post here about it from 12/01/11: http://www.pprune.org/nordic-forum/2...baltic-33.html

Just wondering if you have anymore info. on this stage since you've done it last week...

Thank you.
