Hi. Some of you mat argue that this should go in the 'wannabes' forum but i would like to get some more experienced military advice from some military aircrew.

I'm in my final yr of compulsory education - about to do GCSE's and have wanted to become a pilot in the RAF desperately for several years. I would very much appreciate any advice any of you could give me with regards to becoming a pilot and what i can do to help myself in this regards. I would appreciate any information regarding selection, training that i can do for it, prefered A Level/Degree subjects or anything that would increase my chances.

1. Pass some A levels.
2. Consider doing a degree.
3. Go to a careers office and ask them for the brochures and minimum entry standards.

Thanks but I'm looking for something a bit more specific/unobvious.

Other than playing loads of computer games to improve your hand/eye coordination for the aptitude tests, the advice given by opso is accurate, not to mention the best way of getting info. Careers Offices will be able to arrange visits for you, if you ask them. Listening to the advice given might help you too, even if it does seem to be obvious!

Why the RAF? Why not the RN - they have career offices too - why don't you go for something a bit more challenging, exciting and see the world from a different perspective (not to mention the better uniform) - don't you fancy operating your F35 from a carrier?:p :p :p

thanks. I don't like the idea of spending my time on a ship, and being an air cadet and seeing what the sea cadets are like really doesn't half put you off.

What sort of medical requirements and physical fitness standards are there?
