I won't post names on a public forum, but I'd be grateful if anyone based at Brize would pass on my thanks to the guys in 99, 101 and 216 Squadrons who looked after the Guild of Air Pilots and Air Navigators visitors today. I was one of the group.

Without exception, they were superb hosts and gave us a fascinating insight into AT and AAR ops. We all came away very impressed.

Special thanks to the VC10 crew who allowed me to sit in the jumpseat out of Brize to the training area. :ok:

PS But very nice to see your tribute to the Squadrons concerned, particularly since many members of the Guild have friends in high places, which must be helpful to the cause.

The name on the side of the jet isn't necessarily the same as the name tag sewn into the back of the pilot's Y-fronts!

So when did the "Sqn Dr" get his name on a jet?

PS - A good turn out at the ULAS reunion last Friday. An excellent display, given how meagre the RAF's resources are these days. Typhoon just oozed POWWWWWWERRRRRRR!!! As Clarkson would say!

Some delightful hosting as well. Good to see that the UAS recruiters' eyes are as selective as ever......:E

Re the ULAS reunion -
It was a choice between last Friday off for Wyton or Tuesday for Brize and the opportunity to fly with 101. I might never get the chance again so, loyal as I am to our old Squadron, I confess it was no contest.

The Typhoons in post #7 are from No. 11 Squadron.

The farthest tonka is 2 Sqn.

Re Post #8: No one commenting about the new underwing engines?? I'd have expected somewhat larger props though to get any meaningful thrust!!!
I expect they are for loitering so a nice fuel saving measure by RAF??
