His military background, and long embedding periods to gain perspective on operations, offer an unusual glimpse into the areas he frequents. His photo-rich, in-depth (but within approved OPSEC) descriptions of operations his units undertake have few parallels.

One recent account describes a trap laid by British units near Basra, which featured Javelin missiles as a key surveillance and fires component. His account of the battle explains without editorializing, or getting in the way of the event he covers. The result is a rare depth of view into combined arms operations on the modern battlefield, and the challenges electronic communications gear, net-centric warfare doctrines, and military training all face on the front lines of combat.....

Well worth reading from top to bottom. Great teamwork and a leader willing to listen to his men may have saved some innocent lives. Having read the article and then watched the video at the end I was amazed at how quickly the attack took place when they went live. Those gentleman have my ultimate respect.

An excellent read. It reinforces the respect I have for our army comrades. Cool and professional under the most difficult of circumstances. I'm glad they're on our side!

Some of this must have the politicians chewing their fingernails.

Reminiscent of the troops using Milans for trench busting in the Falklands war.

Expensive but effective.

Well I have just received the biggest tax bill of my life and if thats what it takes to protect our troops lives in action so be it. Money well spent.

All the hairs on the back of my neck have stood up, especially watching the video. Deepest repect to the Lancs boys. Faintly awesome. Eyes in the sky, armour, long fires, boots on the ground. Teamwork.:ok:

They could always buy Spike instead, though the Arabs wouldn't like it....

I'd have loved Spike in my time in green. We had to make do with 66mm LAW. We had a superb mod involving a time fuse and some scaffolding clamps so we could arm it, bug out, and be a long way away when it fired!
