C-17 and C-130 is quite the same...

just read this nice little sentence on bbc online:
http://news.bbc.co.uk/2/hi/uk_news/magazine/3159895.stm

Last year the Pentagon agreed to pay $23m to fit laser protection systems to four C-17 military cargo planes - the US equivalent of the British Hercules.

didn't know the poms invented the hercules. and isn't a C-17 slightly bigger than a C-130? ;)

cheers,
al

I find it amusing Airliners are getting fitted ASE before most of the RAAF transport fleet

Blipdriver, it would appear that your post is almost as inaccurate as the BBC. They said:

"Last year the Pentagon agreed to pay $23m to fit laser protection systems to four C-17 military cargo planes - an aircraft similar to the Hercules. "

No mention of The Hercules being British. :D

PAss a Frozo

I guess when you signed on the dotted line to defend queen and country it didn't mention any sizable insurance payout in the event of being exposed to hostilities....the paying punters however are a different story.

They aren't fitting them to give them the airline the warm and fuzzies about the welfare of the pax, they are worried about the millions of dollars in insurance payouts (10 million + per pax for example) that they would incur if they got wacked!

:uhoh:

Mighty Gem,

I posted this link yesterday on another thread and I can assure you that it originally said British Hercules. It has obviously been edited - maybe by someone who reads Pprune.

Hi Pulse,

I saw it yesterday and it DID say "the US equivalent of the British Hercules"

Journalistic accuracy? God forbid:}

Postman Plod 20th Aug 2003 22:14

Yep it certainly did say what Blipdriver said - I saw it, I complained, they changed it.... :E I'm sure I cant have been the only one...

So does this mean that richard branson may start up "Virgin Airforce"?
He may buy a few Migs on the second hand market or even a few RAF surplus Typhoon's to defend his fleet.
The Freddie Laker would come back and start up his own "Star wars"
No seriously, why not fit Civil jets with DAS?
