There's only one CINC!

A little insight into the mind of George W.

I believe that all American generals have had to abandon titles such as CINC or DCINC and are now called Commander or Deputy Commander because there can only be one CINC!

Tradition counts for nothing.

ORAC 24th Feb 2003 19:25

The order came from Rumsfeld, not Bush, in a memo in October. Rumsfeld had dropped the use of the term months before, so it's unlikely that he was ordered to formally drop it, more likely that he nagged until he got permission to do so.

He also disliked the phrase National Command Authority (NCA) and has insisted that it be dropped in favour of naming the post, e.g. the president, secretary of state etc.

Could give president Blah idea's

I probably do not need to mention this to you experts on America, but our Constitution spells out that only the President may be called Commander-in-Chief (CINC).

Ali Barber 25th Feb 2003 18:16

Check6, if you take away your brackets you've got it right. George Dubya is CinC full stop. The others are all CinCsomething (CINCLANT etc). We're about to go to war and the high priced help is worrying about what they should all be called!

BEagle 25th Feb 2003 19:11

Wasn't there once someone else who claimed to be 'the one leader'?

Went something like "Ein Volk, Ein Reich, Ein Fuehrer!"....didn't it?

Perhaps that's where Herr Rumsfeld first got the idea?

Beagle
Glad to see an admin change on this side of the pond can fuel your dislike of the US.

BEagle 26th Feb 2003 04:50

It's called satire. But perhaps I should have remembered that some of you lot seem to find any humour (yes, 'humour') beyond that of Benny Hill something of an intellectual challenge........

Check 6 26th Feb 2003 10:03

West Coast, you will notice that it is a rare event in these forums for an American to bad-mouth their P.M. or other government officials.

RubiC Cube 26th Feb 2003 11:47

Gen B,

President Blah would probably like to make himself Chief Executive of the Armed Forces. Or should that be The Executive?

steamchicken 26th Feb 2003 14:29

Westy, BEagle is likely to be risking his testes in an ancient near-biplane (sorry - VC10K) refuelling the US Navy's sorry ass fairly soon...flame me for anti-Americanism if you must, but going after those who will be suffering for Obergruppenführer von und zu Rumsfeld for the same crime is hypocrisy.

West Coast 26th Feb 2003 15:55

Beagle
Its the other S word, sarcasm. You can be counted on to take a dig at the US every time one comes available.

Steamchicken
Beagle will not be risking his arse for the US navy, he will be doing it because those were the orders he recieved. Would not be surprised if he somehow runs out of gas to transfer when the first Yank plane pulls up.

Semper Fi West Coast.

B@ll$!!

Regrettably I won't be helping out with AAR this time, due to change in circumstances. Plenty of memories helping out Uncle Spam in Gulf War 1 though - the F14 and EA6 mates were very glad that we were there! My last mission was a bed-to-airborne as soon as possible call-out to support the USN - far from the boat, bad Wx......

Don't ever mistake war for politics, Westie. Aircrew are aircrew, politicians are politicians.

But do I have any time for Dubya or Condomsqueezer..........??
