Human Shields Head for Iraq:

ONDON (Reuters) - Proclaiming they are prepared to die to stop war in Iraq, the first convoy of "human shield" volunteers has driven out of London on double-decker buses bound for Baghdad.

The roughly 50 volunteers, ranging from a 19-year-old factory worker to a 60-year-old former diplomat, formed the vanguard of a series of caravans organisers say will take hundreds, possibly thousands, of anti-war activists to Iraq.

Dismissing criticism by some that they are naively playing into Iraqi President Saddam Hussein's hands, the volunteers plan to fan out to heavily populated areas of Baghdad and other parts of the country as a deterrent to possible U.S.-led bombing.

"We're not a bunch of nutters. We have thought about this," Scottish businessman Stevan Allen, 31, told Reuters at the send-off on the banks of the Thames river. "I could die, but I'd rather live a short life achieving something useful than a long one doing nothing to change the terrible state of the world."

If these people are that foolish then they deserve all they get. I hope that they did not forget to put laser and IR reflectors on their vehicles. We do not want the Tornado or Jaguar guys to miss and hit innocent civilians.:D :D :D

If we do go to war it looks like we might reduce the number of idiots who normally live here at no extra cost!

If the Iraqis can fool the UN into thinking a VX and smallpox factory is actually a pathology lab, I don't rate the chances of a bus load of protestors! I wonder if they REALLY know what they think they're shielding!!

No but I wouldn't be surprised if what they think is a "women and children only" building is actually super secret spooky factory.

This chap certainly hasn't achieved much in his life if he is this desperate and stupid.

As I posted elsewhere, they talk about "schools'n'hospitals" but those are not going to be high on the list of targets. So if they are hit they are hit by mistake - and how will they prevent that? And if we are really that evil, and are going to zap every school in Iraq, then the presence of idiots won't stop us!

If these idiots actually manage to return to the UK should they not be tried for treason?

Surely they are enemy sympathisers and should be treated accordingly?

Maybe they think that because they're british citizens then the government will be so concerned and won't use the RAF in case they get hit by british bombs .................... mind you it's not the british bombs you have to worry about is it??!!!!

Rivetjoint, the only way you'll find out if the factory that intelligence found on a satellite photo or some second rate humint resource suggested might be a government target is actually a school or hospital or more likely just a big building with a cellar full of cowering civilians hiding from 'a 2,000 pound hunk of techology zooming in' is if there are some Brits in the building.

There was recently a Mallard Fillmore cartoon discussing Sean Penn's visit to Bagdad. IIRC, it read "The only problem with Sean Penn visiting Bagdad....is that he might come back."

At least one of our lot is there; he's a Green Party activist, and they're the same far-red mob who wholeheartedly supported the idiot Labour government in destroying the Air Force and gutting the Navy.

Now don't get me wrong, I'm a greenie at heart, but if someone managed to put him - and as many like him as possible - in close proximity to several thousand lbs of HE doing what it does best, they'd attract very little criticism from this quarter....;) ;)

Let's hope that prick George Galloway is with them when the HE starts raining down :mad:
