Ugsas songs

TLA-HO, Yep, I remember the Folkers, I thought we were pretty good! the featherlite song was furnished by GT I think, and the Bulldog song by Keith Aldridge. Good times!

As for the reunion, the current Boss and CFI are both ex-UGSAStudes so maybe they can offer up the THQ (including Grumbles den! (Ah, the parachutes, ah, the memories)) for a function.

We are the UGSAS Folkers, we're folkers by night and by day......! :D

UGSAS Reunion.

If you involve the current CFI you will probably be waiting for a while even if he tried to organize it in a brewery !

Suggest that we hit hit with a fait a complete, or just tell him when its going to happen. I still keep in touch with a few of the old gang.

Count me in- I can hardly say no, I'd only have to walk about half a mile to Park Circus... :p

:D The song began to emerge in Glasgow circa 1980, it was based on a track from an LP by an American called Oscar Brand who put together a collection of fighter pilot songs from the Korean war. The particular song was entitled "Give me Operations" and had verses about US aircraft, mostly from WW2 so it may have come from the '40s.

The verses ran much as this one:-

Don't give a P38
The props they counter rotate
They'll scatter and smitten from Burma to Britain
Don't give a P38

NO

(chorus)

Give me operations, way out on some lonely atoll
For I am too young to die
I just want to grow old

The verses ranged from the P38 to the F86

I suspect the song moved down to Woodvale as 2 of the QFIs on UGSAS at the time became the 2 Sqn Cdrs at Woodvale soon after.

Oscar Brand is well worth listening to (in small doses), he produced such masterpieces as

"Charlotte the Harlot the cowpunchers whore,
The pride of the prairie, the girl we adore"

UGSAS Re-Union

The best way at present might be to arrange an RV at a pub (must sell decent beer, not like JC used to serve in Park Circus!) and take it from there. Park Circus a good idea in the future, but maybe TFD for a first attempt.

How about a first try this Christmas? Unlikely to catch all those interested due to work commitments, but worth a shot.

All in favour shout 'aye' with suggested dates and venues, and if enough interest lets go for it!

:D :D :D

Re 'Napalm sticks to kids'

I think the lyrics can be found on www.mudcat.org (or something similar) along with 'Strafe the town and kill the people' and a rather jolly song about trying to land on an aircraft carrier.

Dec 23rd!

How about a meet 23rd Dec around 1700 at All Bar One in St Vincent St not too far from George Sq hence easy access to both major train stations (so I can get home after to my parents!).

Partners included.

The bar sells a good selection of beers and a good selection of wines (by the glass or bottle) for us ladies! It also does some pretty decent grub.

We could start there and gather up before proceeding elsewhere later in the evening as the mood takes us!

Does this sound like a good idea?

If this seems to attract a few then we can start another post with an UGSAS REUNION title that should catch a few more.

Answers on a postcard here please!
