Who's moderating "Military Aircrew"?

Recently, "Americans" was moved from Mil Aircrew to Jet Blast, probably correctly as it was raising some quite heated responses of a general nature instead of mil specific. Anyway, that thread was closed by Flaps as moderator of Jet Blast.

Then "Spelling Aces" was moved to Jet Blast and Admin Guru's son and heir (A Civilian) was banned from Jet Blast and, presumably, all of PPrune.

Now "I've just been banned from Jet Blast" has been closed, presumably as a result of A Civilian being banned. Shame really, as I wanted to make a comment on Jackonicko's language since that was what got everyone so riled up in the first place.

So, Jackonicko: did you mean you should drink beer more often or was it a suggestion for A Civilian?

And..... who is moderating this thread? Is big brother aka Danny looking over our shoulders?

Anyone want to guess at what Admin Guru/A Civilian/A bunch of flying students' next reincarnation will be called?

fobotcso 12th Sep 2002 15:15

I thought Jacko's post was excellent. In fact, if that's what drinking beer does for you, I may even try it myself.

Who knows, I may even get to like it if I drink enough. ;)

Jackonicko 12th Sep 2002 15:32

Well actually I wouldn't presume to lecture anyone about anything, as regular PPRuNers will know....

Oh OK, then, but I did mean me.... Not that beer's too good for a civilian, just that I was rather astonished at my moderate and conciliatory tone.

However, I thought I'd go into politics now, my platform being 'More Beer For Everyone'....

Count Terport 12th Sep 2002 16:17

I'll vote for that.:)

A Civilian 12th Sep 2002 18:23

Nope I haven't been banned. In all my travels ive never been to a forum that is so spelling and grammar centred, even the BBC forums are nowhere near as bad as this one. Even after I told you the reason's why which im never going to repeat again I got nothing but flames. As such I don't see a reason any more to post on this forum. Ill just browse it in future.

ORAC 12th Sep 2002 18:30

Promises, promises................

TicketyBoo 12th Sep 2002 18:32

Perhaps you should travel more.

Ali Barber 13th Sep 2002 05:09

Jackonicko gets my vote with a policy like that.

A Civilian is still alive and kicking and not banned from here, so how did the "I just got banned from Jet Blast" thread get closed? Can anyone close a thread or is it only the originator/moderator?

Captain Gadget 13th Sep 2002 06:21

More beer for everyone

Jackonicko gets my vote too. No need for a manifesto, stuff the UN, just adjourn to the nearest hostelry and put the world to rights there...

At last, a politician with a conscience!

More seriously, folks, has the site been hacked? If I go to www.pprune.org I get a blank white screen with a little 'AOL High Speed' icon in the top-left corner (I got here by entering www.pprune.org/forums). It's been like that since yesterday at least.

I reckon it's the Chinese testing a new version of their internet-blocking software. Or maybe soon all PPRuNers will find themselves diverted to www.saddam.com and seduced with the offer of a free trial (comes with a free firing squad, too!)

Ali, I think you'll find that nobody is "moderating" the Mil Forum as such. The decision has been made on many occasions that we do not want/need a formal moderator, as we mostly manage to "police" ourselves very effectively. However, if a thread attracts the attention of Danny - or any of the other senior moderators - for reasons that may cause difficulties legally or otherwise, then Danny (quite rightly) reserves the right to move or remove that thread. Similarly, if a thread starts to get into too much personal abuse or circular, unproductive arguments about nothing, then this is seen as a waste of precious band-width, which could be used more productively. Moreover, if individuals make an unacceptable nuisance of themselves, Danny et al also reserve the right to prevent them turning this set of forums into a place that people would not wish to visit. So - I suppose - the answer is that, although the Mil forum is not formally moderated, it still needs to stay within the rules of acceptability laid down by the owners.

Finally, the originator of a thread can delete it, or the mod squad can close, remove or lock it. Nobody else can do anything to it except add comments.

Sorry Danny if I've mis-read any of your intentions in any of this :D ;) . Guess if I have that means I'll have to buy you more beer :D

PPRuNe Pop 13th Sep 2002 13:26

Wholi, I think that just about sums it up. Probably none of us could have put it better. I think Danny will be happy with your comments too.

Certainly, very occasionaly, we have to put the key in the lock, or remove a thread but it is pretty rare. Largely because most here are sensible. One example recently however, was a really bad case of a 'flame war'. That would never survive. So it was removed - as would be expected.

Civvy, don't go, phrases like"the reasons's why which im never" just bring a smile to my face, and I'm serious, don't go, just don't be so long winded and loosen up a little

teeteringhead 14th Sep 2002 07:24

.... and of course, the plural of forum is fora .... ;) ;)

BEagle 14th Sep 2002 09:36

"Now then boy, decline the noun 'forum'......."

"Goes like 'bellum', sir? 2nd declension neuter? Forum, forum, forum, fori, foro, foro. Fora, fora, fora, fororum, foris, foris?"

tony draper 14th Sep 2002 12:41

One begs to differ Civilian, being one whose spelling and grammer is a little free form in style, one finds the spelling and grammer officials are dug in deep on all web sites.
One is very gratful for these selflessly dedicated chaps.
Spot me deliberate mistake.

Jackonicko 14th Sep 2002 13:10

I spitted more than one, do I get a proze?

BEagle 14th Sep 2002 13:17

At least four! Ranging from spelling and punctuation errors to an incorrect possessive adjective.

But I may be wrong. For I never bothered with ISS!

tony draper 14th Sep 2002 16:02

Ah well, me is improving then.

ORAC 14th Sep 2002 16:13

"Drapes has to admire the lads bottle,(no I don't actually admire his arse never having seen it), Drapes always looks at the mil forum and enjoys reading it, but to post there, wow!.

Drapes did post on that forum once, but one ran away and hid in the cupboard under the stairs for a while afterwards".

Ohhhh! Now you're for it. ya got away last time. But now we know where to find ya. :D :D

CR2 14th Sep 2002 18:14

Brains of a pig Drapes :D :D :D
