Reading both links, this appears to be only relevant to current serving personnel. When was the 37 year old or married SLA waiver introduced?

Interesting story and implies the MoD have learnt nothing since the McLoud judgement made very clear that you cannot discriminate on age, albeit that centred on pensions. Of course, the very easy fix is to charge everyone who lives in SLA the same monthly rent, regardless of age, marital class, colour or gender etc. This could fix the problem for the future but might add a few more very experienced personnel to the list of those who have just had enough and can’t get out of their particular service quick enough. One to watch though……

Luckily the MOD has plenty of spare cash to spend on these claims rather than wasting it on aircraft, ships, missiles etc…!

The 37 rule is specific to the Army. They had been told for years that it was discriminatory!! But there was always, for all 3 Services, imbalance between single and married people.

Wonder if they'll back date payments for F&L to singlies to make up for the additional expense of living in MQ or private houses? Actions like this are full of unintended consequences.

According to the Sun, 80,000k SPs are eligible....80 million?

Even 80k sounds far too few to have been affected over the years.

The headline is presumably a typo, quickly contradicted in the text below.

“Up to 80,000 soldiers, sailors and airmen are in line for compensation worth more than £500million.”

You have to be living in currently to join the case.

Apologies for my poor wit, that was what I was alluding to. Great quality journalism if they can't even get the headline correct. 80,000 still sounds like a low amount, of the ~152k SPs, are ~50% of them in SFA/SSSA/own homes?

According to the Claims Bible, you have to have lived in SLA within the last 6 months as they claim via the Service Complaint procedure (slightly non standard as the SC window usually closes at the 3 month point). How far back they allow you to claim is unclear. For example if you've been in and out of SLA will they account for breaks in accommodation types.
