BBC Test Pilot series on youtube.

Greetings, civvy commercial pilot here, but thought this might be of interest to some here.
Came across this channel with a RAF training video called ‘Distractions’ featuring a Jaguar squadron boss making a fatal mistake due to pressures and distractions. There are other training videos on there which may be of interest or bring some of you out in a cold sweat! The channel has also got the 1980’s BBC series ‘Test Pilot’ following the ETPS. Remember watching this avidly with my Dad.

Can’t seem to get a link to work but the channel is called The Aviator.

The 6 test pilot ones are great. There’s also a fighter selection focused series.

Just seen that. Some very interesting stuff on there, Have to say though, ‘Distractions’ is a long way from the ‘join the RAF’ glamour stuff we were shown in the Air Cadets!

But "Distractions" is almost like the real day to day running of a Squadron. Bar the Pilot killed and the Chief Tech (whom were actors Ian Redford and Edward Clayton), the rest of the actors speaking where pilots and groundcrew from 54(F) at Coltishall, to situations that would actually happen. The scenario played out a decade later with the death of Greg Noble whom crashed due to distractions on his taxi out. It was a flight safety film also, not a recruitment one like the excellent "12 Sqn Buccaneers"

I’ve no doubt it was realistic. As an adult and someone involved in aviation most of my working life, I have few delusions left about any type of professional flying. Just saying that ain’t what they tried to sell us! An interesting insight into that world, at least how it was, anyway.
