The vehicle was initially launched with four 5" cordite xxxxxxxx mounted near the front of the fuselage, but later by two 7.5" cordite xxxxxx at the rear, 6'1" (1.85m) long and giving 3,100 kg thrust each for 2.0 seconds. The first really successful flight was on 19 July 1951 after many partial successes during development tests.

JTV-1 ramjet powered test vehicle on launcher at Aberporth. Round.07 and the seventh flight. The booster arrangement here is four groups of two five-inch solid boosters with canted nozzles mounted at the front, indexed at 45° away from the two ramjets at the back.
