Russian MiG-31 plane crashes during training flight
|
I wonder what aircraft that was filmed from? The canopy is in a dreadful state.
|
Re the canopy: a former Chinook colleague who went on to Air Rank was given the task of flying in the back seat of the Russian display team's Su27 on the occasion of their visit to RIAT some years ago to "assist" with R/T and ATC procedures. He mentioned that the state of the canopies in what must've been the best Su27s the Russians could muster was appalling, with moulding errors and other marks hampering visibility in all directions. Other than that I think he rather enjoyed the experience - including winding-up UK aircrew at the various social events by telling them that he was a supplier/blanket stacker who needed the flying suit for his job. Our own flying suits had no badges (other than rank-slides) or name-tags, unlike most of the other participants.

Was it an accident or just the final phase of training, judging by the war in Ukraine, practising crashing and getting shot down has a place in their training syllabus

Seemed to me to be a long time between the ejections although I admit I've got no experience of it.
I couldn't see very well due to the aforesaid state of the canopies but it looked to me as though the parachutes landed on opposite sides of a river. |

Amateurs, not staying with it for longer.
Anyhow, I'm sure it will buff out |
Plenty of people I know / knew, died or ejected during training missions.
The Russians are bound to run into the same problem. |

Looks like a pretty good fuel fed fire. |
