Another UK mil aircraft grounding

A rumour brewing that a UK mil rotary fleet has been grounded.
Any guesses?
My money is on the Mk10, considering it’s previous tail rotor history….

Go on, I'll bite - what's the Mk10?

gzornenplatz 28th Jan 2023 19:04

Golly! Not the Whirwind?!

ShyTorque 28th Jan 2023 19:17

The best clue is that there aren’t many Mk10 types out there!

Good God,I posted the F765A in March 1964,about my loss of t/rotor and g/box in a Mk10(WW)...I`m so glad ,given Cvd and `go very slow at the Post Office, that it has finally reached a `Gnome` working diligently in the lower depths of the`Inspectorate of Flight Safety`...wherever that is nowadays...
There is always hope that the other 2 F765`s ,somewhat later regarding engine failures over inhospitable terrain, will arrive in due course.....!!

DRUK,Thanks,flew it to`retirement`, 2Nov `81in Catterick...

I think I've cracked it.

Not the Mark 10? And after all the Mark 9 shenanigans? Heads should roll, we're doomed I tell you.

Combat indicator that PPRuNE is full of people well out of the loop but still want to know about things they have zero influence or effect on them...

Given the loss of a sort of Puma in Ukraine recently, I thought it might be 33 and 230 being stood down.

Always preferred Gnomes in pairs - in the front of a Wessex!

Off to the logbooks ... and there she was - multi entries in late Summer '64 , part of the blissful experience of Thorney S&R ! :ok::ok::ok:
I have a couple of pics, similarly parked but with crew and spectators from a w/e 'Carnival' demo at Ventnor.
Truly, the best of the best !
(Oddly, set up for night flying with the Schermulys fitted ?)

ha - and there was me thinking PPRuNe was a rumour network?
The next time I’m looking for deep insight I might need to look elsewhere ;-)

ref Tutor grounding. What’s the reason this time - we had a couple of propellers fly off back in the day……

Have heard broken wing ribs being discovered as a reason, but don't know if it's gen.
