Service wives turning to sex trade due to cost of living crisis

To say i am appalled it has come to that is an under statement, energy wise surely the Military as a huge consumer has commercial rates, why can that not cover quarters as well or does it already?

This is just sick. If people are dealt with so badly, how does one expect them to risk their lives to protect that system?.

If I recall correctly decades ago we had ranks on the bottom end receiving welfare, such was the largess of the military pay packet. When we went of to war families were kicked out of military housing, mine went to her mothers for the duration.

The universally recognised method of attracting trade in the 70s and 80s when the hubby was in NI, on exercise etc was an OMO box in the married quarter window. Old Man Out.

How expensive is army housing?

chevvron 8th Aug 2022 09:00

I seem to remember this happened a lot in Aldershot back in the 'war' of 1982.
The local taxi drivers made all the money though.

Absolutely correct Megan (Post #3). At Scampton in the early 70’s, Works & Bricks decided to install storage heaters (electrically heating up bricks so they would keep the houses warm) in AMQ. I don’t know if there was a less efficient or more expensive way of doing things but ‘electric bricks’ was a real contender. Waking up to ice on the inside of the bedroom was a fair indication of how effective they were. And us lower ranks going into Lincoln and having to apply for Supplementary Benefits was an embarrassing and disgraceful state of affairs. Being posted to Germany showed how things should be done.

Plenty of them already on OF. Supplements income. Not saying it’s right but they are at least safe and control it

On a more serious note OPSEC< reds under the beds, blackmail , honey traps....be factored in.

CG, it’s supposed to be the WIFE who puts the washing powder packet on show, not you! 🤫

Motleycallsign 8th Aug 2022 18:52

RAF Upavon in the early 90's had Calor Gas heating in married quarters; Junior Ranks had to apply for benefits to pay for the supply.

cynicalint 8th Aug 2022 19:35

Can they claim 'Specific haircut' expenses back?

Old Man Overseas was what I was told - but there was no mention of money changing hands, just a “temporary husband” situation.
