Maybe the military running out of airfields to give practice visiting different stations .
Back in th '70s , operating a Trident into NCL Rwy 05 . No parallel taxiway , so it was a 3 point turn on the rwy to taxi back .... We'd heard an RAF Phantom doing practice ILS , low approach , G/A behind us .... As we were at right angles to the Rwy still turning , Phantom went around V. low over us ; couldn't see him but the rocking he gave us on a Trident's notoriously stiff u/c was quite severe . Pax were upset , as we were .... the skipper so much so that his comment on R/T ... '' You Young man , are seriously BoXXXXed , and crossed off my Christmas card list '' . Didn't think at the time to inspect for soot or burnt paint on the roof ! rgds condor . |
