One To Watch

On the Smithsonian TV channel tomorrow(Thursday) at 12 noon:
Vietnam Firefight: Three former helicopter pilots return to Vietnam where, in their twenties, they were part of a dangerous mission to rescue 100 soldiers caught in an ambush.

Well worth a watch.

Also been watching Homemade Astronauts on Discovery sat 10 pm.

Bunch of nutters, last week during the steam rocket launch, the chute didn’t deploy and it came straight back down from a few thousand feet sadly killing the guy in it. They think the nozzle shifted off centre knocking him unconscious and unable to deploy the chute. His previous landing he hurt his back ( which he had broken 3 times! )

They were ultimately planning to launch him into space sitting on a hammock fitted inside an old aircraft drop tank with a hatch cut into it, the idea was to lift it to high altitude by balloon then fire up the rocket engine driving it through the balloon and into space.

Pretty sure his 'chute deployed during the launch. You can see it on the footage.

According to my TV guide, 'Vietnam Firefight' (Helicopter Wars) is on Smithsonian TV at 12 noon on Friday (7th Jan), and not Thursday.

yes but his friend watching it back in slow motion said something along the lines of that wasn't it, will watch again tonight, he said the nozzle shifted and the initial launch was off centre, he believed he may have hit his head on the side of the cockpit and knocked himself unconscious thus rendering him unable to deploy the recovery chute. I thought the same as you, he lost the recovery chute at launch.

Watch the film, nutter
