Graduates in the RAF 1969

Both my mum and dad were stationed in Cyprus when this was filmed, I was just born. I’ve always wondered what became of some of the characters in the film. Most would unbelievably approaching 80 now if they’re lucky. Any ideas?

Recognised several. Must question the date, because they did not start Cranwell until 5GE in autumn 1971.

Probably true. Cadet are flying Chippies at YUAS. We swopped our Chippies for Bulldogs in circa 1972.

The Engineer, Supply, and Secretarial, spec training groups were definitely 5GE, so would have been filmed in early 1972.

Indeed some familiar faces, with a few no longer with us.. Early 1972 seems likely.

I agree early '72 for the Akrotiri filming . 56 Sqn did not get its F6 Lightnings until late '71 and some of the faces in the Akrotiri segment did not arrive until 1972.

The first Bulldog first flew on 30/1/73 and was still undergoing trials at A&AEE in April 73. Delivery in any number to the RAF started in May 73, and I'm sure it took a while from then before the Chippie was replaced at AEFs, probably end 73 or even 74.

I worked on Chippies at 6 AEF in 1980 - 83, they soldiered on for quite a few years after that as well :)

The last Chipmunk on an AEF was in 1996 !
