B2 Incident

B2 incident at Whiteman AFB. Crew are safe, but no indications of damage. Large exclusion zone set up to "provide a safe environment for accident investigation" - code for keeping the photographers away no doubt.

IFE arising from engine#4, 3 shut down as a precaution, landed on two (1&2) engines - several systems knocked offline hindering crew comms.
Further details a little slim on the ground.

In the grass.

What throws me is it appears to have two track marks behind it as if it was on its gear when it departed and no furrow from the wing, I wonder if they had a deflation? Unless what looks like tracks are exhaust burning of the grass.

I take it direction of travel was down the photo as if the wing dug in it would swing it round.

Can’t see them being exhaust burns if they’d already shut down #3 and #4…

NutLoose 15th Sep 2021 22:17

Then a deflation, oleo collapse, wheel sinking in? The tracks look straight which you would expect to curve if a wing dug in?

It has been warm, dry and windy out that way for the past weeks, so imagine the grass was firm, so lack of major wheel furrows not surprising.

Looks to be resting on the left wingtip, with the right high in the air. Tough to say which way she was traveling. Have not pulled the wind direction from that night.
