Wg Cdr Leighton "Buzz" Turner
Hello all,
It is with sadness that I relate the death of Wg Cdr Leighton "Buzz" Turner, who passed away in his sleep on Thursday 15 Jul. He was part of the RAF from 1978-2009 where he served as a Nav (as I believe it was called then), working on Phantoms, Tornado F1 and finally F3. I know that he used to read this forum but, in all honesty, I don't actually know if he used to post anything here at all. I don't know any formal way of informing the wider RAF community of his death and attempting to reach his old military friends, so this is the best route I can think of. If there are better ways then please let me know. If you knew him and want to share anything with me then please feel free to either respond to this message or send me a PM. He will be missed. JustPassingItOn ------------------------------------ Until you have a posting history you don't have access to private messaging and adding urls. Healthier chance of responses if you include your email address. |
Try the 23 Sqn association, mate. I'm fairly certain that Leighton served with 'The Crows' in the early '80s at RAF Wattisham.

RIP Buzz. You were a fine Fightergator, Flight Commander and friend. Always there to support anyone with your smooth Welsh tones, and always the live spirit at any party. I’ll miss some of your finer Welsh Rubgy Union songs (which probably aren’t allowed these days). You were the embodiment of the 29(F) Sqn motto “Impiger et Acer” :(

Buzz, you were a real gent, a fine operator and a great Boss. Sleep well mate.
|
Did Buzz serve on 92sqn in the early '80's?
|
No, but John Turner did.

Buzz was OC Air Wing in The Falklands when I was OC 303SU. We were both on accompanied tours so spent a lot of time together at work and in the many social arenas. An excellent boss, great company and he and his lovely wife were kind and generous hosts.
This is very sad news for both myself and Mrs Wyler. R.I.P |

I lost touch with him after I left the AD world so it’s more than a bit of a shock to hear this. ….Very much agree with maxburner’s comments.. |
Leighton was just taking over as OC FIAW when I was leaving after 6 weeks as Sqn Ldr Air. I hadn't seen him since Wattisham, but he was the same genial and delightful chap with a fine sense of humour.
RIP. |
I echo LJ’s words and will remember Buzz as a fine Flight Commander who really looked after his people. I also recall that he had a remarkable capacity for aquavit when challenged to a shot drinking competition by a Danish F-16 squadron commander at Skrydstrup! A good man taken far too young……RIP Buzz

Buzz
Very sad news indeed. Buzz lived next door to me on the patch at Wattisham. He was a keen and irrepressible first-tourist then. One of the good guys.

Can someone please PM me with Buzz's home address?
|
Buzz's funeral
Does anyone on here have details of the funeral?
|
Hi essdee. I've tried to PM you, think that should have worked but not 100% sure with this new account.
Please email [email protected] for details. |
Many thanks. Didn't get the PM, but no matter.
