One of the unique quilts available, suitable for the spring the UK is currently experiencing https://www.merchgift.com/collection...s/kalt2205bc03

I ordered one last week, just be aware that right at the end of the transaction the price changes to dollars and you discover the item is coming from America.
|
I saw that, its odd though that they do the UK, German, Australian, Belgium, Italy etc but not the USA.
The top Puma one impressed me because unlike items you get in the UK, they have managed to get the flag the right way up and the back is mirrored correctly. |
Would Mogwi admit to having ordered the Harrier one?
My Hawaiian shirts are genuine local Honolulu purchases, and do not feature aircraft. |
Very disappointing that the only ‘truckie’ offering is a C17, I shan’t be wasting my money...!!

Not really a pukka Hawaiian shirt unless bought in Hawaii!
As was mine when HMtheQ sent us there on an open-ended detachment. 2 x VC10K3, 3 x crews, some mad scientists and some TCW mates. Plus our groundcrew and some 'specialists'. Ooh it was SUCH hell... Mahalo!! |
I looked at those shirts in awe, and finally found one that depicted an aircraft that wasn't obsolete...
Wow! |

Thanks for the correction and the link, West Coast!
We just found some mall not far from where we were staying in Honolulu and did the tourist thing, competing amongst ourselves for the gaudiest shirts we could find! |

You need some pukka vintage 1940'50's era Aloha shirts for the proper 'Here to Eternity' look. :ok: Glad I picked up the ones I have back in the 80's & 90's when they were still affordable and not so collectible as now. There a serious 4 figure sum sitting in the wardrobe that'll I have to let go of one day before too long. Still wear them on the odd occasion when UK weather is vaguely Islands-ish, or I go back across the pond on visits. |
Well it will negate the long-standing joke "How to you know if you are at a party with a former xxxxxxxx pilot" (Harrier, Concorde, U2, F117 etc etc you fill in the blank)
|
These are also proper nasty - 65% polyester...:yuk:

JAJ
I hate fabrics with man-made content like Polyester - crap for the environment (microfibres from this stuff is killing our oceans), burns like a b#st#rd (no naked flames!), it makes you sweat like a fat kid playing rounders, it feels nasty against the skin, it often looks cheap and shiny plus there is a reason why it’s cheap. Aloha or Hawaiian shirts should be cotton with wooden buttons - that’s the spec. Also, there is a reason why they are made of cotton in one of the hottest and humid islands in the middle of the Pacific - they keep you cool! Leave the nasty-nylon garments to those that play Kev-Ball... Here are some top tips on how to stay cool from the Aussies (who should know what they are on about): https://www.abc.net.au/everyday/fash...mmers/11739222 |
Erm I'm not what you would really call a fashion guru, buuuuut, something about "being seen dead in public " wearing one springs to mind.
On the other hand, the enthusiast market may have no such reservations.... |
Nice, but don't wear those shirts when visiting Hawaii. Honolulu and Waikiki might work, but they won't go down well elsewhere!

The Aussies do have a somewhat 'individual' approach to casual wear....
Shivering in a light pullover at a Brit barbi' once, an Oz mate remarked to his host that he was more used to warmer climes and normally Aussies "Just wear singlets and thongs at a barbi'...." She was somewhat taken aback at this, until it was explained that 'thongs' are the Aussie name for flip-flop beach shoes! Enjoy Big Island, West Coast! Many years ago, our 'helpful' HQ staff made the accommodation booking for us. Arriving at the Hilton, we were told that they had no record of any such booking. "Have you got 16 rooms available?", they were asked. "Yes sir", so we duly booked in. Some weeks later, a rather terse note arrived from Hilton demanding to know why we'd been 'no show' for the bookings. Then the penny dropped - our HQ people didn't realise that Hickam was on Oahu, so rather than the Hilton Hawaiian on Waikiki, they'd booked the Hilton on Hawaii aka 'Big Island'...... Quite a large bill for that up-cock!! I just checked my Aloha shirt and can report that it was Made in the USA by DeeCee!! |
The Darwin Motel clearly had more stringent standards of dress than the Fanny Bay Hotel (also in Darwin). I remember a sign outside the latter (again pre-Tracey), which said "Clean vest and shorts on Sundays".
|
Well as Hawaii is part of the USA then the label Made in the USA is correct.
|
Wore my best Aloha shirt tonight to a Beach Boys concert tonight. I wasn’t alone in doing so. Unfortunately the shirt was made in Malaysia, maybe have to get me one of those RAF shirts now.
|
My favourite group of the '60s, West Coast! A pity that Dennis and Carl aren't still with us and Brian's voice is, let's say, not what it was....
I remember the astonishment I felt when I bought the Good Vibrations single (6/8d in old money - according to the inflation calculator and currency converter that's around $96 today....) - and the Pet SoundsLP was, and still is, totally epic! 60th anniversary year - that's some going!! |
West Coast/Beagle
Westie, have a great time in the Islands - been there twice and it poured both times; but the north coast of Oahu was simply stunning. Drove down from Portland to San Diego with Ms BB in 2009; nothing better than that with the Beach Boys on the car radio with the roof down. Took ten days to do it with an unforgettable weekend in the Marines Memorial Club in San Francisco ( Happy Hour was fantastic). Big Sur was also memorable. San Diego is one of my favourite US cities. |
OK, I've done my wardrobe check.
Honolulu "Aloha" shirts ... made in China. Assorted "Been There" t-shirts [Hawaii, Jamaica, South Africa)... made in Mexico. https://cimg2.ibsrv.net/gimg/pprune....2afcfe1d2d.jpg HI State Fish ... HUMUHUMUNUKUNUKUAPUA'A ... Easy to say after a bit of practice! https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Reef_triggerfish |
