ASCENT FLIGHT TRAINING - CULDROSE

I am interested in feedback on the ASCENT FLIGHT TRAINING UKMFTS set up, at Culdrose, for a pal who has an interview with them. He is currently living outside UK and would be setting up from scratch in Cornwall.

Any info pertaining to any aspect of the job (King Air pilot) or life in general would, I'm sure, be most appreciated.

Thanks.

House-prices in Cornwall are currently in the ascent. People from up-country are buying off the brochure, or off-plan on new developments.

Yes, Seen that. Ascent are being a little coy about the salary apparently. It might be a deal breaker if the figure I have heard is accurate. Nothing worth renting or buying would be doable on the numbers I am hearing.

Would be a shame to miss-out if the numbers are that poor. It's a great place to reside once you've adjusted to living at the far end of civilisation in 1950...

Porthmeor and Harbour Beaches in St Ives last night plus the northern sky an hour after sunset on the way home from a perfect Tapas evening meal after a few Tributes at the Sloop Inn. Need I say any more ?

You would think the sea would rush out with the slope on those beach shots ;)

It does look lovely though. :)

It does, indeed, look lovely. Somebody may have a big decision to make as it does seem a shame to miss out on that view.

Ascent are recruiting for experienced maritime QHI’s for Valley. They pay a ‘Valley weighting’ allowance on top of their normal salary for instructors, and this takes the salary to £65k. It has been advertised for many months with no takers. Ascent rely on you having a pension and/or not wanting to leave the area you were when you left the mob. They do not pay well at all. Also, I defy you to find anyone who is proud to work for them...the atmosphere is terrible.

Yes, that checks out. Low-mid 50K is what he heard for Culdrose.

Advice I was given as I was leaving was NEVER to work for any outfit which thought it could 'top up your pension' with a low pay rate.

Ascent should note that well-known saying - "No bucks, no Buck Rogers!!".

That is, unfortunately, the likely outcome. The job itself looks ok and the area looks beautiful. But if the numbers don't add up then it isn't going to happen. Almost fifty per cent of net pay would go on renting an average 3 bed semi and that is enough to say no.
