Oh dear, the russian conscripts have a hell to go through with them...
Just look at that amount of molotov cocktails, and people are just waiting there for the opportunity to use them. And apparently they are armed to the teeth as well, since the weapons storages have had a firesale. Plus all the anti-tank stuff flooding to Ukraine. And fast jets amongst other goods. Must admire the ukrainians. And starting to feel a bit proud of the EU. |
Well that can’t be good.
Russian state-run media Russia Today is broadcasting warnings for all civilians in Kyiv to immediately evacuate from the city. The Russian Ministry of Defence is also issuing instructions to the residents of Kyiv to evacuate: “All civilians in the city can freely evacuate from the capital of Ukraine along the Kyiv-Vasilkov highway. This direction is open and safe.” |
Not sure if the Mig-29s have arrived yet - but the missiles have…
”Ukraine says they have been resupplied with air-to-air missiles. Considering they use Russian-types, this must-have come from an Eastern European NATO ally with stocks of these missiles: “Our Western partners for the aviation of the Air Force of the Armed Forces of Ukraine have received a large batch of air-to-air missiles, which are already under the wings of our fighters. The pilots assure that there will be enough for all the occupiers!” |
ORAC, that is what the Chinese used to do thousands of years ago, to surround a city and leave an avenue of escape. The hope was that the city would fall easily, and with no bloodshed for either the attackers or for the defenders..
Great read and all-time world classic if anyone has the time and inclination, and if you have already finished with Shakespeare, etc. Takes some getting into because of all the names, but it made me realize that the Chinese are still living this history as if it never grew old. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Romanc...Three_Kingdoms https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Record...Three_Kingdoms |

Someone above this post said that borders are indisputable and if you don't like them, move to another country. West stomped over those same principles in the past and somehow that is fine? How do you decide what is fine and what is not? Lumping so many different countries and cultures as 'the west' really illustrates the xenophobia and paranoia that have been propagated by your authoritarian propganda machine. Shame on you for believing it. |
Joli,
That may have worked in an era when cities had populations of just a couple of thousand - small towns in modern terms. But Kyiv has a population of 3m. How long do you think i5 would take to evacuate and who do you think could build the tent cities and bring in the food, water, field hospitals to support them? Maybe they think they could just keep walking down the highway to the Polish border lying down and dying at the roadside? |

Shame on you for believing it. You really want me to count every single country whenever I refer to the "West"? Yeah, not going to happen. And BTW, I have absolutely no connection to Russia. It seems strange how people that like to propagate "Western values as pillars of freedom, both physical and speech" like to tag anyone that dares to give some different points of view as trolls, bots, etc....... |

Not sure if it has been mentioned on here previously, but hopefully the Sovcomflot Russian Oil Tanker will be prevented from loading/exporting Crude Oil from Sullom Voe tomorrow.
Seems crazy that permission has not (yet) been refused. |

Admikar, there is plenty of FSB presence on all social media trying to engage in the disinformation war - hostility from other posters is a natural reaction against anyone who defends Putin or his actions which are wholly reprehensible.

Without breaching OpSEC, guess there’s probably some shipborne BMD assets (stateside) that can ummm assist with dealing with this, if the unthinkable should happen. Actually what’s the likelihood with their fingers nervously hovering over the red button(s) this might happen? i also read Belarus is joining in the fray with their special forces wanting to assist his good self in securing Kyviv. cheers like the rest of the soviet era block members back it is Ukraine that actually has meaning to him. |

I agree that was reprehensible and was not demonstrably true but does not justify the Russian actions. Putin is doing no more than his Czarist predecessors and as a Serbian you should be well aware of the damage they did to your country in the 19th and 20th centuries using the same toolkit and where it led to.
General opinion here is when West does it it's not a big deal, when Russians/Chinese/Iran does that same whole world shuld jump on their throats. As much as you would like to believe so, there is not that much difference between two sides. |
On the topic of propaganda, I know there's been a lot of talk of booting RT of air but it does provide a useful window into the minds of the regime and their supporters. I caught the tail-end of a documentary on the Donbas yesterday - all very odd, slo-mo footage, mawkish music, and obligatory babushka (it had me in mind of a budget Fox). An element of Russian society clearly revel in their victimhood.
This was then followed by a long link/channel ad which went on and on about the truth and perspective. Big Brother would have loved it. |
