Phil Pynegar

Two people have PM-ed me in 24 hours, in response to a post of mine referring to Phil as RIP. For those who didn't know, Phil died in December 2013 after an 18 month illness. He was a smashing bloke, a fine pilot and well up there on my 'Pilots Least Likely To Kill Me' list! I knew him in Germany on 230 in the 80s. RIP again Phil.

I worked with Phil on 240 (Puma) OCU. I had no idea, RIP.

So many ex RW pass at a relatively young age. 😱

And he was equally esteemed in his time at Shawbury in the early years of DHFS, for his peerless personal and professional qualities.

Thank you CG - I had absolutely no idea Phil was no longer with us, and fully agree with the comments you and the other fellas have made about him. Definitely one of The Good Guys

Phil was outstanding.

I had the pleasure of two tours with him, one in RAFG, one as my Flt Cdr on 240 OCU.
Saw him in the MSHTF not so long before he went, same old Phil.
We had a go in the Puma sim, with Phil presiding, and got attacked by a Mig - in the Odiham circuit - he enjoyed that!
A nice Gent and a quality QHI. RIP Phil.

Another recent 'rotary wing' departure is Paul Deakin, apparently from Covid contracted during the Christmas limited release.
