Azerbaijani forces using obsolete AN2 Biplanes as drones

To pinpoint air defences that they can then take out. It seems a cheap form of missile bait.

Not much of the conventional stuff seemed to be getting close but that's a very costly way of killing an AN-2..................

Salute!

Gotta love it!

Go look up the CIA helo A2A kill of a Colt at Lima Site 85. Dude nailed the sucker with either an AK or M-16.

And other URL's about LS85 readily to be found.

Brings back great memories, as I was at Pleiku and flying over the Trail at night to attempt slowing the supplies streaming south. One night early '68 we heard a call on Guard ( aka Navy common, heh heh) that "85" was under attack. Not the basic mortar and/or rocket attack we at Pleiku and home base of Bien Hoa were used to. This was a ground attack. After landing, I asked our intell guy what that was all about. I didn't know about the MSQ 'Sky Spot" setup or the political inplications of active duty USAF radar folks on the ground. Had escorted in and out of several SOG teams, but they were not "stationed" on the ground.

Thankfully we did not loose as many folks as we could have, but still too many. Some of my buddies in Thuds got to destroy the MSQ radar thing with Bullpups, and others bombed the place. Only got to meet one survivor, and he could write a great book about the fiasco.

Flew with and know many Ravens and had one as a FAC on the last mission I dropped a bomb in that screwed up war. 22 Feb 1972. Crossed the Thai border at exactly 1200 hours when the "first end of the war" happened. Landed at Korat and we all had a great time at the bar! Our POW friends came back a few weeks later.

Gums recalls....

wow

I couldn't find the original link, it described a pilot getting it airborne, using pre installed straps to secure the controls when heading in the right direction then bailing out.

That is a cracking story Gums.
Real boys own stuff.
