How long have those seven people complaining lived there? Is this just another case of someone buying a home near a source of noise without doing due diligence, then bitching about the noise?

Read the article. Those flights will take place between 10,000 to 18,000 ft.

Do you really need to ask? Lots of people complain about the noise from Paine Field - that doesn't mean it should be shut down either. And yes, many of the chronic complainers that bought million dollar homes overlooking Puget Sound that happened to be near the airport moved here from - that's right - California.

It's an odd thing about airports TD, they often as not were originally built in the boondocks and over the years found themselves surrounded by residential communities brought about by greedy developers and lack of zoning by the authorities. That may in part have been influence by the folk who worked at the airport and wanting to reside close to work, subsequent purchasers just didn't do their homework. It seems odd that I don't hear complaints about railways from the noise adverse, having lived near one as a lad I know how noisy they can be, not that it worried me or anyone I knew. One such airport that was in isolated countryside came to the attention of developers with an open day advertised for a Saturday. Being a military ab initio jet training base the CO issued instructions that all students and instructors were to report for duty on the day and do nothing except circuit training. At first, before they found out the reason, studs/instructors were perplexed because they never worked weekends.

With the F-15 not coming below 10,000 I really don't think noise would be an issue. I live one kilometer from the local threshold with F-15, F-16, F-18, Rafael, SU-30, Gripen, MV-22 depending on the time of year, and a panoply of airline, GA and military transports passing by, jet in afterburner interrupts the TV for a short time, but so what, the wife on the other hand, could it not last longer? :E No curfew either, though the fighters don't operate at unreasonable hours, nor an anti airport group campaigning, perhaps the community has memories of having more ordinance dropped on it than Pearl Harbor, and being the gateway for the countries first international flight.

This sounds like fun. The point is USAF evidently didn't complete the process to meet current requirements (whether you're pro or con) to use Boise airspace 10-18000' and neighborhoods (or Main Street :eek:) to conduct this training.

Only slightly off topic: Abandoned & Little-Known Airfields is a wonderful documentation of many, many airfields that used to exist and are no more. I'm amazed at the number of airfields on the San Francisco Peninsula and across the bay, some of which were operational when I moved here. Wanting to shut down airports is an activity with some history. An airport I trained at, the University of Virginia Airport, was objected to because "Mr. Jefferson did not allow for an airport or a school of flight in the University's 1812 charter."

In "Bomber County" in the last few years we have had incomers complaining, not just of aircraft noise but of farmers' cockerels waking early and Church bells ringing (only been there for 800 years) etc. If you live in a city you need to do due diligence before moving to the country.

Me, I'm so blase I only look up to see what is flying if I hear one or more merlin engines (4 is best).

Six is better, but 10 Merlins, two Griffons and two P&Ws is devine.
