Details here, at least the old girls survival chances are improved and maybe one day she will be recovered to the RAF Museum. After all the stunning Southampton in the RAF museum survived the fate of its contemporaries by being converted to a houseboat in its past life.

The RAF Museum had one Nutty....ended up being scrapped as it was rotten. Don't see it ever ending up there.

Yes but Hendon didn't own it the MoD did, along with all the other airframes till the late 90s. Naturally saving Airframes is as easy as buying a can of beans according to some on FB..... Me...OMG |

As Valiantone has pointed out the Beverley parked at Hendon was , in practice, an "orphan". RAFM effectively not allowed to refurbish it financially, MoD not accepting responsibility for its upkeep.
It was becoming structurally unsafe and a growing potental threat to the safety of Museum visitors. Thus a very difficult managerial decison had to be made, governed by overriding H&S considerations. |
It was an orphan all right, unloved and unwanted! Too big to be accommodated inside the existing museum it would require a bespoke building to shelter it. Not a feasible option for what was after all 'only' a transport aircraft, or so I imagine that was how the thinking went. The MOD wanted rid of it, the museum didn't want it; its fate was sealed. That H&S considerations resolved the dilemma says it all. A lot of railway infrastructure went the same way in the 50's. Once BR had blown up a viaduct that was 'unsafe' simply as a result of not being properly maintained, then that line joined all the others that were already 'cancelled'.

C130K, XV 202 at Cosford will surely share the same fate as the Beverley.

Dispute over a Beverley ..... In the months prior to the auction, volunteers of the Fort Paull Battery Heritage Site CIC (FPBHS CIC) have done their utmost to guarantee the future of the Beverley as a museum object. They were completely smashed by the news that the Beverley will be converted into a luxurious B&B. In an official announcement the Fort Paull Battery Heritage Site CIC states: “In the last couple of days, the CIC learnt of Martin Wiseman’s plan to convert the Beverley into holiday accommodation via a news article. He did not contact or inform us of any information prior to the press release (an additional grievance to the hard work so many have committed). The Fort Paull Battery Heritage Site CIC does not support this decision in any manner, and we will not facilitate this to take place. Over the past months our team has been working exceptionally hard meticulously planning the movement, restoration and archival process of the Beverley.” And: “FPBHS CIC cannot assist as it fundamentally goes against our moral, ethical, and historical stance. Therefore, as of the 6th of October 2020 at 10.00 hrs LT we, the FPBHS CIC, remove all our assistance, financial and otherwise from this now personal business venture.” |
General consensus is that despite what he may have plans to do with it, it went to the right owner.
He outbid a scrap merchant from London apparently.... |

I'm not surprised by this, I fully expect there to be not much left of the Bev after conversion, than a vague Bev shaped fuselage perhaps which will be gutted internally and modified massively, and not much else. Is 40% of a Bev better than no Bev? Well, maybe, given all the others have gone, but people shouldn't kid themselves that this is saving an aircraft, as an aircraft. |
I would imagine it’s to take some of the strain off the wings, but It’s sound ominous, he might as well have Just built a BnB in the shape of a Bev if this keeps up.
