Grim Reapers Heritage Jet
It was last year, that the 48th Fighter Wing had Boeing F-15C Eagle and 2 x F-15E Strike Eagles painted in WW2 heritage color stripes. The two F-15E , both went stateside For rework / deep maintenance with only back to Lakenheath without it’s markings. I myself never saw either of the Strike Eagles in their color scheme but have seen the 493rd FS ’Grim Reapers’ F-15C Mount still in it’s colors. Yesterday I popped along to se the Aviano F-16C in action again with the Lakenheath lot, so here are my photos of the remaining heritage jet.

Shooting through the fence can sometimes be tricky, even with a modern digital camera. Give the guy a break, please! |

Probably. Were the first 4 flying shots through the fence? Do you carry a fence round with you to shoot through, cause your Mildenhall QRA and Aviano F16 posts aren't exactly sharp either.

No the flying shots I stood on a bank, Mildenhall QRA I shot over from ground up apart from the taxi. cheers |
Why do people complain when someone makes the effort to post something of interest which they consider less than perfect?
Some people are never happy. I liked the pics. |

Top drawer Dan!
Yes I agree - Sorry Chopper but your photography is not the best. Like all things - don't take it personally and maybe look at it as motivation to get up to Dan's skill |
Tornado Nav's knee-pad was still a bit fuzzy.

Great set of photos on my iPhone (thanks) - higher resolution camera needed me thinks for my iMac?!

Whilst I enjoyed Chopper2004's subject matter, it is apparent that something is not quite right. Whether it be technique or settings! Focus does seem to be off or maybe you were shaking with excitement! Perhaps try to increase the camera sharpness control a little to see if it looks a little better.
I was unable to read any Exif Data. These were evening shots, so perhaps ISO needs to be raised to allow for a faster shutter speed or change the exposure; many of your photos seem too dark. I wonder if you do any post-processing? You might want to use shutter priority and pan the camera for moving fast jets! Maybe consider shooting Raw; as you can adjust more with post-processing. I was wondering what equipment you were using? As a DSLR with a half-decent lens should be able to obtain rather better results in my experience! Although shooting through a fence probably didn't help much. Please don't take offence. It was meant to be constructive only... I don't know if you are new to photography, but if you want to develop your skills further there are excellent forums on DP Review for every camera, make and model. If you upload some of your work there with EXIF data intact, I'm sure that the regulars will critique and help point you in the right direction. Cheers! |
I would not dream of de crying Choppers efforts, each to his / her own, but the difference between these and Dan's are 405 line black and white vs full 4k HD.
I know which ones I would prefer as keepers and shows why 405's are no longer sold.. Well done for being brave... |

Fantastic pictures, but they don't contain the information Chopper was trying to impart to the wider community. Chopper's pictures contained the requisite information and were, therefore, effective. As this is a virtual crew-room, why not give Chopper tips on the techniques you use, rather than disparage his images. This is, after all, an aviation site, rather than a photographic technique site; Chopper's images more than met the requirement and did not deserve the graceless riposte posted by you. |
Whilst I couldn't take photos nearly as well as either of the two protagonists, I’m certainly learning a lot about how to be patronising from these recent posts.

Being highly skilled at something whilst being a bit of a dick are not mutually exclusive.

In a spirit of positivity. If your photo is unsharp for any reason and you can’t do a retake, consider resizing to 25%. It doesn’t solve the problem, but it will be much less noticeable. https://cimg9.ibsrv.net/gimg/pprune....70f1036807.jpg |

Chopper, I suspect that you shoot for fun, not for profit. Keep at it and set yourself a goal to improve something each time you're outside the fence!
I don't know whether you're allowing the camera to determine the focus point, but (if you have not already tried it) select a focus point and force it to use that - might help the camera grab the correct focus. Thanks for sharing. |

Back when I did some air-to-air photography, it was with a 35-200m manual focus lens and I always used Ektachrome 200, with spot metering and the shutter speed set to 1/500, which was as fast as my Canon T70 would allow.
That meant zoom, compose squeeze. None of this digital wizardry or clackety-clack of motordrives etc. You had to get it right first time! I never tried to take photos whilst handling the controls; nor did I EVER ask targets to pose. That was probably art. Talking of which, the famous aviation snapper Arthur Gibson once asked me why I hadn't entered a particular photo in the RAF photographic contest "Because I didn't know there was such a thing", I told him. "You should have done", he told me "I would have insisted that it won!". He then asked me for a copy and even paid for it - such a nice, genuine chap! Whereas these days the very expensive digital devices used by many bang off dozens of shots, following which a huge amount of selection, enhancing, tweaking and editing is done. So some of the 'Mach Loop' and other photos leave me cold - they aren't genuine 'one shot only' images. That spotter hanging on the fence with a desire for a particular shot is one of the RAF's shareholders and shouldn't be derided. Whereas "I've got more kit than you" snappers, who produce soulless 'Airfix box' images don't really deserve the plaudits they often receive....after hours of post-production editing. Speaking of Airfix - you used my 'Armoured Charmer' GW1 shot without any credit! A few quid to a Service Charity would seem reasonable reparation! |
