I guess so

To those few of you who saw the previous question....the answer on this occasion with 3 posts and 2 of those by the OP is it seems so🤔. Therefore I may conclude the OP of the “Upset Blunty Quote origin” thread, didn’t like the agenda they were working to questioned. Perhaps that’s too simplistic so I have to admit the Mods may well have alternatively deleted the thread for other more “valid” reasons.😇

Appreciate it, guess the thread didn’t get them what they were after or Perhaps any real support for their actual agenda. Let’s hope their target gets the benefit of the doubt and it isn’t ramped up to a lynching, just so it’s seen that something was done to punish them.
AF.

No idea what the official response will be, but the unofficial one is widespread, hilarious and merciless.

Great Video from SHF

it certainly is🤣 but to be fair hardly unexpected by most of us. Let’s hope the subject individuals chain of command see it the same way🤔

I have 100% faith that they will not

Wow, this sounds fascinating! What was the question?

Origins of a “Quote”

Ok, well the deleted thread was started by a new member asking if anyone knew the origins of an alleged quote. It had been on an e-mail sent out by a serving officer at the bottom of the mail perhaps as part of the signature block. One person who’d seen this had then become offended and felt disrespectfully treated since the supposed quote didn’t acknowledge the importance of their role or work within the service. As a result of this they raised an Anonymous Complaint form which was then being actioned by PSF and further by the individuals chain of command. After much to and fro and a bit of banter the OP withdrew and deleted the whole thread. This, since it was their first and only thread and pitched up so coincidentally with the actions being taken on unit, appears to have perhaps been a phishing trip to source providence or not of the quote to help substantiate/back up/Justify the complainants case. So, if you can help at all with the quote that caused so much offence great😁. It’s certainly been floating around since at least the early 80s and probably earlier. In general, by most, it seemed to be banterous, and was thrown at various ground trades back then (not solely but certainly something I remember from V813) who organised “ex-corporals nights”in the Sgts mess bar to exclude the supposed “plastic” Sgt NCA and without doubt was partly responsible for the creation of “The Street”😇. Anyway should you be able to shed further light on this it was similar to the quotation below....

“The business of the Royal Air Force is flying and fighting........
...the business of those who don’t is to support those who do”🤔

Incidentally, part of the problem was that a screenshot of the complaint was then shared within a Watsapp group of peers but further shared without permission again and again and went pseudo viralish. That then brought into question comsec and release of information issues for different individuals and their SM responsibilities......

And this thread brings it further into question! If you want to help the individual involved, probably best to delete or let this die out.

No, keep it going, that’s what this site is all about!

I have a vague recollection that the quote was placed on the fence, near the main gate at Leuchars in the 1980s when the F4s held Q there.

Nah, that one said " This is an operational station.
Never forget it."
Which you clearly have!! :}

It was a vague recollection of what I was possibly told. And I’m getting forgetful with age. Is that suitably ambiguous to weasel my way out? 😂
Mind you, it was pretty close and almost in the spirit of the quote.

Think it might have originated back in the `60s possibly in ``Air Clues`,or a Flight Safety Film.maybe the Javelin one.....

As a former erk. I don't see a problem with an obvious truth.
Reminds me of those PR pictures with the pointy jet at one end and all the supporting trades in a pyramid behind.

And perhaps that’s the point....

The reaction to this individuals pride in his own role and the misinterpretation of the quote in the email (which incidentally wasn’t actually directed at anyone in particular at all) maybe shows the precocious sensitivities we are dealing with? In truth one needs to be proud of the part you play within an organisation and don’t get all boiled up and jealous of the part others play. At times I’ve been right at the end of the line as the prime mover and last individual in what I/we were trying to achieve. That said, after re trading to a different role that pretty much was never the case again and I was always supporting someone else. It’s odd but at my last unit the whole of what they did there was geared towards getting my aircraft airborne correctly loaded, configured and on time (Well not just mine but you get the idea). Now then, since I always got a window seat at the front of that, in my little mind it could have been me, Me, ME..... of course it wasn’t since as soon as the wheels were in the wells I was only doing my bit to support someone else. Now that could have been 100 tons of fuel for fast air, 281 “ grunts” from A coy, 5th RGT, 2nd BTN, 3rd Division, Royal Horse Chasers or 100 tons of bog roll or even paint, ships, HM, Gray, No 1 Mk 1, long lasting, anti slip.........It really didn’t matter I was in support of someone else doing their job. We have to appreciate, and most of the individuals I’ve operated with throughout the years actually do get it, that it takes us all and most of us will end up,supporting a lot more than we are the “Tip of the spear” if ever but we do our bit to make it that little bit easier on the ones who are closer to that tip. In retirement I will more than likely never do again, the things I have done or even be vaguely contributory to but.....finding that people I supported either didn’t know my contribution, under valued it, or even were dismissive of it should not de value the contribution I genuinely made. Perhaps for many there will never be sufficient recognition but that’s just life......I think you need to do the job/role you’re in to the best of your ability. If you have a genuine non whinging case about something using the normal chain of command it works.....this seems so much to have an alternate agenda.🤔
