FTS Jet Provost Syllabus in the 70/80s
A long shot but I know lots of Ex RAF QFIs read these pages. I've been writing a blog based on my 40 years in aviation using dates from my logbooks as the framework. When it comes to my time on the JP3/5 at Linton, I have noted the exercise numbers in my logbook but I have no details as to what the exercise content was. Does anyone on here have a copy of the syllabus somewhere in their records? It's a similar story for my time at Valley on the Hawk course in 1979.
Thanks in advance Pete McC https://cimg6.ibsrv.net/gimg/pprune....6060cbca80.jpg |

JP Syllabus
From my memory (and some details from the logbook) the early sorties in the JP syllabus in 1975/6 were:
Ex 1 - Famil. Ex2 - Effects of Controls 1. Ex 3 - Straight and Level 1. Ex 4 - Effects of Controls 2. Ex 5 Straight and Level 2. Ex 6 - Climbing, Descending and Medium Turns 1. Ex 7 - Climbing, Descending 2. Ex 8 - Medium Turns. Ex 9 - Stalling 1. Ex 10 - Stalling 2. Ex 11 & Ex 12 - Circuits. Ex 13 First Solo. |

I wish mine looked as neat as yours!

Now to ramp up the discussion a bit I ask how much did you learn from those basic exercises?
Having worked my way up the QFI tree, the longer I was involved, the more I became of the opinion that Bloggs learned as much by 'look see' and a certain basic ability than by the giving of exercises 1 through to 9. |

Thanks so far to those who have offered information. Keep it coming!

Mach 2:
You are confusing two different types of exercise number. Those you list are the long-standing elements of trips, but those in the logbook are more accurately described as "trip number". To get the content of the latter, you need to see the detailed FTS syllabus of the time. Caution: there were frequent changes. |
kenparry - I'm sorry to disagree with you, but those were the trip numbers for the first 13 trips in the JP syllabus at Linton on Ouse during my time as a QFI. I know what you mean by trip elements - we used those for SCT.
