Outrage mounts over report Russia offered bounties to Afghanistan militants for killing US soldiers

Fierce response from top Democrats after US intelligence finding was reportedly briefed to Trump in March, but the White House has yet to act

Come, come now, don’t be so shy - you can make a Russian movie out of it - “Kuz’ma Wilson’s War”.......

Deep state gens up a report, unproveable but that really is irrelevant, releases it months ago and then desired result is Trump didn't declare war and Nuke Russian so clearly he is owned by Russia.

Everybody could believe the "Intelligence" report which will be long on detail and short on facts after all Gulf of Tonkin was real, Incubators were really been ripped off babies in Kuwaiti hospitals and Saddam had crop sprayers ready to go and fly thousands of miles with Bio weapons.

No doubt the usual shrills in UK media for intel services will be adding their names to the stories already written for them.

Let me see if I get the story right (assuming it's true). It appears to have been alleged that a sovereign power hired mercenaries to kill to kill soldiers of an adversary power fighting in a third country. This is something unprecedented? I think this sort of thing has been going on ever since there were wars. I would think that none of this would surprise any realists in the Pentagon. I guess it's a good thing that neither the U.S. nor the U.K. paid resistance fighters to kill German soldiers in WWII. I feel that this entire story is just another example of ginned up false outrage. Our news media at their best.

Cheers,
Grog

So the US can cut deals with the Taliban that result in (or at least don't prevent) Afghan or other deaths, but...?

atakacs 28th Jun 2020 17:52

So the US did not do exactly this when the Soviets where in Afghanistan? All those nice Saudi whaabists Mujahideen were never "encouraged"?
Complete nonsense (if at all true)

Its four and a bit months from the election, all manner of “things” will surface.
The way this year is going I would not be surprised if it’s suggested that Trump and Putin have a love child somewhere.

Ahhh, the gruniad?

paragon of truth and unbiased reporting

highflyer40 28th Jun 2020 22:06

Complete non story. Even if true the Americans, brits and everyone else is doing the same.

If the roles were reversed I would be doing the same thing. Oh! Wait a minute, when the Russians were invading Afghanistan the Americans were doing what again?

Lonewolf_50 29th Jun 2020 00:08

How is this a surprise to anyone? Quite a few of Russia's current leadership are old KGB and Soviet era hands. Bitter over the bleeding they took in Afghanistan, to which our side contributed in the 80's, I can see them wanting to get a little pay back.

If true, I don't like it but I understand it.

(Reuters) - U.S. President Donald Trump said late on Sunday the intelligence community told him they did not find media reports suggesting Russian units in Afghanistan offered to pay the Taliban to kill U.S. soldiers credible.

So, if the US intel do not find this info credible, maybe all those fake news generators in the media better switch from keyboards to M-16, join the army and go to Afghanistan?

Background Noise 29th Jun 2020 07:27

Ah, when we do it, it is brave and courageous - when they do it, it is dastardly and underhand.

So you see, Blackadder, Field Marshall Haig is most anxious to eliminate all these German spies.
Filthy hun weasels, fighting their dirty underhand war!
And fortunately, one of our spies...
Splendid fellows, brave heroes risking life and limb for Blighty!

Could also have been the old lets get a fake story going and find who leaks it to smoke out a traitor. Limited number of people involved so easily track person down............... if sell out to NYT because hate the President then what would they do for $50k.
