Moscow Victory Day Parade Flypast
|
Flogfoot 5 and 6 got a bit wobbly (3:30)
|
Very impressive, but a lot of that hardware must be getting pretty old by now.
|
You might say the same at most military flypasts these days - even the F-35 has been over a decade since first flight

It's a toss - up as to whether the Fencers or Candids are longest in the tooth here. |
But ... ignoring hardware, how good are they at what matters?
Bombing Arab towns in a benign environment with total air superiority is one thing. But how about sustained operations against another major power/Alliance? I pray we will never find out. |
Old or not, they’ve a leader not afraid to use it, who’s backed up by a population who’ll sacrifice a million in an instant to put one over on the west. That is their true power.

Be interesting to know what proportion of its GDP Russia spends on defence. The Russian economy is often stated to be about the same size as Italy's, so all that hardware must be having an affect of the standard of living of the man in the street (or the woman in the village). A good illustration of the power of a demagogue that there is not more protest from the Russian public.

ISTR the NATO/US Arms Race was quite damaging to the Soviet economy a few decades ago.
As you note, TTN, it’s easier to manage with a subservient population. |
Not a bad little flypast - didn't realise they still fielded a Foxbat variant.

When Russian was invited into Syria the statements on here quoted "Pentagon" and their talking heads on MSM. Russian equipment would soon be grounded as not up to US standards. This quickly started to sound hollow when flight hours per aircraft was rising and month after month aircraft did what they were supposed to......... fly rather than spend time being worked on. Western equipment is designed ultimately to make Military contractors money 1st and do a job 2nd. Long as #1 is achived the outcome of #2 is of no concern. Like you I hope not to see them tested but I believe we will as there is a section of people who desire war. |

I was in a key worker role than needed to travel, I founded people screaming at others in a filling station because the supposed 2 metre rule wasn't being adhered to it, it was but they put tape down every 3 metres. :ugh: The mass hysteria was scary to see in action while neigbours became willing spies that the Stasi would have welcomed. |

https://www.sipri.org/commentary/top...sked-questions Sadly US Budget spending is doing exactly what it did to USSR, everybody wants a piece of the cake. |
"Govt screwed up and then scared the people into mass house arrest, anybody who questioned it was an enemy of the state wanting to kill people, national religion became "Worship the NHS" and a pliant media fell into line while the economy died and few questioned their actions ."
Well the alternative was mass deaths and hospitals being overwhelmed so i think they got it right.............. |
