Writing on Twitter on Wednesday, the US president wrote: "I have instructed the United States Navy to shoot down and destroy any and all Iranian gunboats if they harass our ships at sea." See link https://www.msn.com/en-gb/news/news-...ps/ar-BB132qJb |
First you blow them out of the water, then you shoot them down. Simples.......

Is Trump trying to increase the price of oil?.

Do the Iranians have flyings boats these days?
Or is that for the USN to arrange for them? |
If you shoot a boat, where does it go?
Down... 5d level chess confirmed |
Like flies. They're so fast there's no other way of stopping them. Giant fly swat?

Apparently the U S military are a bit mystified - they expected presidential "orders" to come via encrypted channels not Twitter..

Well that should sort it! Never seen a boat shot down before.
See link https://www.msn.com/en-gb/news/news-...ps/ar-BB132qJb For the anti-submarine defence of UK ports, harbours and anchorages during the Second World War, sailors in rowing boats were equipped with pairs of binoculars and pots of green paint. When they spotted the periscope of a U-boat, they rowed over to it and painted its lens with the green paint. The U-boat commander, thinking he was still below periscope depth, would keep trying to ascend. By the time his submarine had risen a couple of hundred feet in the air, it was easy to bring down with anti-aircraft fire. |

Iran threatens to strike US ‘terrorist’ ships as tensions rise in the Gulf The commander of the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps vowed today to destroy any US warships that threaten its security in the Gulf, raising the stakes still further in the increasingly volatile region. Major-General Hossein Salami said that the Iranian navy had been “ordered to hit any military ship of the US terrorist army that tries to endanger the security of the Iranian military or civilian vessels”. He made the announcement this morning during a visit to the Hormuz Strait, which is bordered by Iran on one side and the Arabian peninsula on the other, and is just 21 nautical miles across at its narrowest point. Hours earlier, Mr Trump tweeted that he had “instructed the United States Navy to shoot down and destroy any and all Iranian gunboats if they harass our ships at sea”; a response to an incident last week in which Iranian gunboats harassed several US navy and Coast Guard vessels in the strait........ The US does not have an embassy in Iran, but the Swiss ambassador, who acts as Washington’s representative, was summoned to the Iranian foreign ministry today. State media reported that he was told to pass on a message that Tehran would “strongly defend” its rights at sea...... |

FODPlods story reminds of a story told to me by an old navigator of his flying days in Africa back in the 1960s.
On one occasion after start up they requested the local QNH and were passed a pressure which placed them several hundred feet underground. On querying the setting they were told imperiously by the tower that he was the person who had the authority and to set what they were told. Rather than argue they acknowledged and were cleared for take-off. Shirtly after departure the tower requested theIt passing height. To which the captain replied in a suitably portentous tone - “20 fathoms, rising!!”....... |
An Ex-Sunderland man ( the late Dennis Moreau) told of participating in a joint RAF /RN exercise over the Atlantic in the 50's. During the subsequent debrief at Mountbatten a submarine commander stood up and announced that he has sunk an aeroplane.
Periscope photography was produced, showing Dennis's Sunderland sitting on the water with crew members perched up on the wing sunbathing and drinking coffee. Thinking they had flown safely out of the exercise area being bored stiff, they had put down to while away couple of hours before their ETA back at Pembroke Dock. |
"So....Trump was right again!"

Surely a well-placed round to the engine of one of these things would slow it down a little.
