Build yourself a Lightning
Go on, you know you want to...
Lightning 422 From their FB page... If all of this self-isolation is driving you nuts. Then why not build your very own flyable Lightning422 out of paper. All you need is some scotch tape, glue, and access to a printer. If you can get yours to fly longer than Peter Baldauf's, then we will give the winner a very special prize. Post a video link in the comments section below and the winner will be announced on 1st May 2020. The step-by-step build manual and templates are available for FREE at the link above. Many thanks to Peter Baldauf. Stay safe and have fun! Those of a nervous disposition should decrease the volume...:bored: |
Brilliant!! After all these years, I may actually have a chance to "fly" a Lightning. As my JP instructor said "JP: OK, Gnat: dangerous, Lightning: fatal. He was probably right, and this old, not bold pilot managed 40 years without the experience.

To a WIWOL some of those flights seemed disproportionately lengthy.
It appears I'll have wait 7hrs or more for Bonker Harris to say something cutting. |
That seems like an unusually lengthy flight for a Lightning - perhaps model flying is more rewarding than flying the real thing!
|
No it is not
|
For those who take their Lightning model flying a bit more seriously - it is even the best mark (F2A) and the best squadron !
|
Nice RAFG camo F2A as well here:
Needs to get that nose wheel retraction snag fixed ! |
Love the map - nice touch.

Arrived at RAF Binbrook in 1985 with John Carter and Paul Sutton. There had been a fatal in 83,84 and 85 plus other ejections and injuries. Given there were only 2 active Squadrons, the Lightning Training Flight and I think one tee bird at Boscombe the odds were not all that good. The three of us survived it....just.
