Pilot 'Union'

Maybe not a 'union', perhaps a 'federation', but certainly a professional body independent of the Chain of Command?

Likely re-attacking an old issue but is there merit today in a body that represents all aircrew/ground crew, one independent of the Chain of Command?

The purpose being to ensure safe delivery of The Offer of Service with a focus on fairness, trust and confidence?

An ombudsman?

A Service Complaint Ombudsman already exists. Note - whilst her decisions are binding, her recommendations are not.....(go figure)

What she does not offer however is advice, for to do so would, in her view, compromise her independence.

So a midfield role that is independent of the Armed Forces, understands the Armed Forces and the nuances therein, and is best placed to represent all aircrew and groundcrew? You could roll th emodel out more widely of course pan-Defence.

Do our mil pilots already have a BALPA-equiv, or indeed even want one?
