At the Cenotaph

Am I alone in noticing Boris Johnson's lack of respect today? His jacket and coat unbuttoned and his wreath laid the wrong way round. Or is it just his characteristic lack of attention to detail?

Finningley Boy 10th Nov 2019 10:48

I thought he had a dollop of "Just William" mixed with a tad of Billy Bunter about him. Have to admit, Corbyn looked quite sincere and genuine.

Really ? I must be biased (actually, I am), because it seemed to me from his bored expression, mumbling of the National Anthem and skewiff tie he didn't give a flying f**k and considered it all a waste of time.

Notwithstanding, another emotive and successfully executed ceremony. Long may they continue.

Well relative to what I expected of the old commie. Which isn't a lot, in fact I expected him to wear a Blazor festooned with various badges, peace symbols, support the IRA etc.

I can’t even believe he has the nerve to attend! When I see pictures of him with the IRA it makes my blood boil.

Ken Scott 10th Nov 2019 12:06

I suspect he’s hoping he won’t have to attend ever again, if he makes it into No 10, next year there will be a Peace Day instead, much more to his liking.

who, exactly, is the Marshal that he kept referring to, that is the head of the RAF?

Cornish Jack 10th Nov 2019 13:01

Relative to the OP's concerns, just which of the two people referred to is (supposedly) the Country's political leader and, therefore the foremost representative of all the population? ... and is that how we wish to honour those who paid the ultimate price? Perhaps just for once he could have read the brief and, at the very least, have asked Nanny to check his turnout before leaving the house!

langleybaston 10th Nov 2019 13:17

Not seen my recording yet: I was at a live village ceremony. How on earth could Corbyn pass DV or whatever they call it these days?
I imagine the Cabinet Secretary and the Heads of SIS and MI5 must have held contingency talks?
Defence is the dead elephant in the corner ........ no votes in it.

Chris Kebab 10th Nov 2019 13:19

Johnson was a shambles, looked like he has missed his alarm call. Forgot his hymn sheet, mumbled away and, if you look closely, missed his cue for laying the wreath, set off early and had to come back and start again. If Corbyn had looked/behaved like Johnson the Daily Mail would be crucifying him, but that won't happen to their darling.

He's a joke but the reality is neither him nor Corbyn are fit to run this country. We are politically in a mess.

Herod 10th Nov 2019 13:51

I never thought I'd say it, but Corbyn looked far more respectful and dignified than the Dud of Downing Street.

helisniper 10th Nov 2019 15:05

...and there was me thinking I’d escape politics by spending a bit of time in here....

isaneng 10th Nov 2019 15:09

I just don't care.

They are politicians, they have no relevance to personal feelings or beliefs.

To those who weren't at the cenotaph...

'Absent friends. And those who went before, and since.'

Herod 10th Nov 2019 15:22

isaneng: well put, sir. "Absent Friends"

2Planks 10th Nov 2019 15:51

Maybe because Boris was also at the Albert Hall last night, joining in with some gusto. Didn't see Jezza there.

If HM The Queen can; can't you?

The world moves on.

Perhaps he was simply following the example set by his friend, Mr Trump, who dresses in virtually the same style. I was *much* more concerned by the absolutely dreadful looking cap worn by the Prince of Wales, representing HM The Queen.

Jack.

jindabyne 10th Nov 2019 16:59

Well said Newt. The man is not fit for any UK public office.

And Islandlad. The Queen moved on after the peace process, as we all have. It's what Corbyn did, whilst in public office, before the peace process, that is so insufferable. Ask Norman Tebbit what the man did whilst he and his wife were lying in hospital after the IRA bombing. Quite why more is not openly made of the man's traitorous background is, to me, very disappointing.

langleybaston 10th Nov 2019 17:12

Count me out. The man has habitually sided with every enemy, however preposterous, of our country and of our best ally. Misled at best, a traitor at worst.

Pontius Navigator 10th Nov 2019 19:27

HI was a ness. IF scrubbed up well, they looked new clothes. Someone got at him. In BJ's case probably advised by Cummings.

In English please....??

On a sartorial note, the nadir was perhaps Michael Foot's lack of dress sense at the 1981 Cenotaph ceremony.

Tankertrashnav 10th Nov 2019 23:40

Well I'm with Herod. Leaving politics out of it, I have to say that BJ was a total mess whereas JC looked perfectly respectable
