A wonderful, quintessentially British evening. Well supported by light blue uniforms - regular and ATC - with SSAFA and other service charities benefiting significantly from the overall atmosphere of bonhomie.

Jerusalem, Land of Hope and Glory etc., impressive display by the Red Devils, and a beautiful, measured display by the Grace Spitfire against a backdrop of the setting sun.

Proud to be British and ex-Services.

Last year we went to the event at Burghley House and thoroughly enjoyed it. The Grace Spitfire display appeared to be almost in slow motion, all the better with the orchestra playing Elgar's Nimrod. As TT says, so British. I know it is unfashionable to feel pride in being British, but events such as this and the Queen's Birthday Parade illustrate what we Brits can do. No doubt the naysayers will disagree, but they will be poorer for it.

Blenheim, 22 Regt RE had a dining in night at the prom. Very atmospheric with their dress uniforms well in keeping with the Napoleonic re-enactors down the hill.

That night they also had a proper French-English engagement with artillery advancing and retreating. The finale to that piece was a solo demonstration of Congreve's Rocket troop.

The battlefield was cleared, the crowd line moved back and some rockets fired.

Sadly the RFC, after their defeat by the Americans, was not represented. :)

The North Norfolk Prom at Blickling is also worth a trip, generally a better flying display and less crowded. Both this and the Battle Prom make a fantastic evening.
