MEng Dr David Simpson

Sad news about Dave Simpson copied from another forum RIP Dave

'It is with a heavy heart that I write to let you know that my brother Dr and MEng David Simpson passed away peacefully at home in Lincoln today on the 28th July after losing a battle with lung cancer. Joining the RAF at 16 as a Cosford Apprentice he served his 40 years on Vulcans as an Air Radar Technician before joining the Aircrew fraternity as a Flight Engineer on Nimrod MR2P (206 Sqn), VC10 (10 Sqn) and (his love) Tristar (216 Sqn). He will be sadly missed by family and a host of friends.'

Dave served with me on Tens for some time. He was more than just a Sqn mate, was excellent company, very intelligent and very sadly missed.

FJ flying was fun, but the comradeship of friends like Dave on heavies made up for many things.

RIP Dave. A great flight engineer. Lovely bloke to fly and have a beer with. I can see you now across the VC10 flightdeck telling me how great the Tristar was!

That's sad. Nice guy and I've had a couple of nice chats with him since he and I retired.

First met Dave on Applied Flight at 6FTS when he was a young man questing to join the green bag brigade. He was a good student and it was no surprise that he went on and did so well in our trade.

My condolences go to his family and friends. RIP Dave.

Such sad news.

I'll be raising a glass in foreign lands and reflecting upon many happy memories as the mighty Tristar took us to the next party.

My condolences to Dave's family and friends.

As a relatively inexperienced captain, I was crewed with MEng Simpson for trip to somewhere in Norway. After landing in quite challenging conditions, Dave offered a quiet “well done” - which meant a lot to me.

RIP Dave.

Sad news indeed. My condolences to Dave's family. He was a joy to fly with.

Sad news. Last time I met Dave was on the main square in Abingdon circa early 90s, probably having not seen each other for 10 years plus. It was as if we had spoken on a daily basis. Absolute gentleman. Never flew together though as our paths diverged having left Finningley. Funny story to share from the meeting but not for this forum! Any details of his funeral?

I will always remember Dave as a generous man and fine mentor who helped me through training flt on 216. Always remember visiting so many Harley Dividson showrooms with him whilst down route in the States and all the charity bike rides he helped organised. The world is a lesser place for his passing, my condolences to his family.

I'd like to expand the very brief details we have about David in our 10 Sqn Association website Obits . See: HOME - 10 Squadron Association - Royal Air Force
Does anyone know the funeral venue and timing yet and also can anyone elaborate on the Dr part of the initial post about him?
I regret that I was on 10 Sqn before him and therefore never met him.
Please respond to [email protected] if you can add more info for a suitable Obit. Thanks.

Dave had a doctorate in Engineering. I believe he based his thesis around Concorde.
